On January 7th I ordered a badger hair brush head from PSI to finish a shaving kit I'm working on. I had them ship it the cheapest way that they offered (not priority)
The item left PSI in Philadelphia on Jan 13th and was sent to Elisabeth NJ (83 miles) It left Elizabeth NJ on the 14th and was in transit until today when tracking shows it has arrived in Fishers, IN. (694 miles) soon hopefully it will leave for its final destination of Columbus, OH (173 miles) ....OH did I mention it had to travel THROUGH COLUMBUS to get to Fishers, IN.! SO, by the time it finally gets to my house it will have traveled approximately 950 miles! and 17 hours on the road! If USPS had routed it appropriately it would have traveled 606 mile and about 10 hrs on the road to its final destination. And the postal service wonders why its loosing money......

They started what is called transhipping, they start with a small local trucking company that then does something and has a deal with the post office, for a reduced rate which they pass along to the the seller. It is then put in to a local post office or a post office that is close to were they have an almost full truckload going to. It then is shipped by the USPS the rest of the way.

In addition to PSI, Woodcraft just had started it. It went from an overnight shipping time from Woodcrafts warehouse to 6 to 10 days after Fedex dumps it at the local to their distribution point, postal sort facility. Plus they raised their shipping prices for ground.

Both Fedex and UPS do the transship thing, but they are a little better at it then the company PSI has. Must have been the low bidder.

I do know that the Philly postal sort center has had problems, this is from the postal employee locally that handles inquires. it was a problem with operator error.

Also another supplier in Philly had to double send my order and the fist one showed up it had been stuck in the philly loop for 2 weeks, and one from PSI was in it for 3½ weeks before it made it to me. The replacement order got to me faster than the original.

The biggest thing I think is which ever supplier it is we as buyers use, we have to make sure that they know about the problems and delays in the choice of shipping methods they make.
:clown:

Then there is the case of the USPS driver picking up the wrong package.
I only have a small bench by my front door to set my outgoing packages on. Packages shipping USPS are in USPS provided boxes and set on the left side of the bench and UPS packages are in brown boxes setting on the right side.
About 2 weeks ago, the substitute USPS driver picked up the only UPS box along with the USPS boxes. That one still has not been returned or shown up anywhere and the customer has already received the replacement box.

I had a package sent to me where it was process from a Post office then it outsourced it to Federal Express. 17 days later I got it. were it should have taken only 5 at the most. New Jersey to Michigan...

PSI Shipping and USPS S-CK

I ordered pen kit from PSI on 1/5. They acknowledged the order on 1/6. They didn't ship it until 1/11 and it took till 1/18 to show up at my door. Did I mention it was traveling from PA to CT aprox 200 miles!

If woodcraft down the street wasn't so _____ expensive I would stop using PSI and CSUSA.

So you got your package in 3 working days, what is it you are upset about? You wanted it shipped the cheapest way and now when it was done that way, you are upset that it took so long to get to you. I think you need to sit down and look at the calender and figure out where the package was on each day and question why you asked for it to be shipped at the least cost to you. With all the packages that USPS delivers, it is amazing to me that anything makes it where it is going at all. I have a funny feeling that Columbus may have a bigger hub than Fishers does and thats what non-priority means.

Actually I got it today and it took 5 "business" days. My purpose of this thread was not to complain on how long it took to get to me but the fact that the package passed through Columbus (which has two large postal hubs, one at the airport and the bigger one just outside of downtown) and was sent to Indiana before coming back to Columbus for delivery. The other point I was hoping to make was the fact that lately the US Postal service is stating it is going under and loosing money and this is a prime example why they are. At the current cost of diesel fuel that extra 344 miles it traveled wasn't cheap plus the per mile charge the contract driver gets cost them too.

Don't forget holidays in there, they get them all. And you made my point, if they are cutting costs and the big trucks are going to the bigger hubs, then the little trucks go to the hubs to get the mail for outlying areas. It's cheaper to ship a full truck than it is to send out a bunch of half empty ones.
