Jason and I took a roadtrip today. We left this morning from VA Beach area and drove to DC to spend the day with Tim Wise. My goodness does he have some awesome stuff! I was floored when he said he has been turning pens just about a year now. How do you start with the Majestic? I don't know but Tim has figured it out! Now...go make some display cases for all those pens you have in boxes!!!

Some of the best turners make awesome stuff but don't have all the fancy tools and jigs that others have.....Tim you are one of a kind. Your eye on colors and contrast set you above most.

I appreciate you allowing us to Monopolize your day! It was well worth the trip and if you are ever in the area, the reciprical visit to my place is expected.

Fred,

You didn't waste any time posting this!!! Thanks again Tim, I sincerely appreciate the time you gave us. I know I had a great time.

It was my pleasure guys!

Fred, both you and Jason are welcome back any day! I think I came out on top here with all the cool stuff we went over and the direction you are taking with your pens. Okay, and yes...I do need to get a display case for the pens and get them out of that dusty box  I'm just too focused on trying new things to worry about what I'm going to do with the ones I've already finished:rolleyes: but hey...one of these days right, ha ha ha.

After you guys left I walked back into the shop and finished the faux rivits in the black knife concept pen, and was able to do about half of the blank for the partial herringbone with the aluminum accents. I ended up using Cocobolo and Brazilian Cherry.

Again guys...truly amazing day and Thank you for the mold! I'm sure I can get into trouble with that, ha ha ha. Now we all need to make a trip to SC to see Jonathon:biggrin:

You suck Fred & Jason!:tongue:

Hey, hey, hey...potty mouth  We'll make it to SC soon. Funny thing...I have training in Augusta, GA around the March time frame and if the paperwork happens then I'll be there for about 6 weeks. I'm sure I'll be able to swing by on the weekends Jonathon...?

I can't wait to see that black knife pen finished!!

Thanks for the awesome afternoon of discussion and tutorials! That was all we talked about on the way home was how we would put it to use....Hopefully tomorrow.....

ANYTIME Tim! Augusta is only a country mile from here (about 45mins) and a straight shot on the interstate. Time to get things cleaned up a bit!

I got a Tshirt out of it Fred....from Andy after we went sailing in that hurricane! :thunder::thunder::umbrella:

I'm very jealous! But I have managed to get one of his pens out of the box and into my display case!!
When are you east coast guys going to make it out here to Sunny California?? I guess it would just be easier for me to make my way out there. I have a brother that lives in Waxhaw (sp?) NC. He just moved there, so I'm drawing a blank on the spelling.
Anybody live near there? I could use his house as home base and venture out from there. Tim's pens are great to see photographed on the forum, but they are even better in real life!!

The fact that we take the time and effort to get together with each other is what makes this whole thing top notch to me.
If anyone's headed out to Southern California, let me know.

Martin

You suck Fred & Jason!:tongue:
You could come to Richmond again. Rumor has it Tim will be doing a demo Thursday at Woodcraft.

Is he...heck I better show up to see this

Being that this is my first meet and greet at the WC I'll pre-cut some materials to walk through the steps. Fred and Jason can tell you...it's pretty easy once you see this done. I'll bring some of the pens and perhaps some blanks that I've been working on if I haven't turned them already

Fred, Jason...which pens do you think I should bring? I have no idea about these things. How about the crystal cap...think that will cause some sleepless nights  I know I still have nightmares

I would bring your scalloped pens at a minimum. Any of them would be fine though! They are all awesome. Knife scale project pens are also a must.

I would also take some of the concept tubes that you have casted also. Everyone likes to see new concepts.....

Tim,

As Fred said, I would definitely bring the scalloped and knife pens. You know I love that lunar face pen. That crystal cap is a must too! That thing was insane. Wish I could be at the meeting, but I will be out at sea. Good luck with the meeting. I know you will enjoy it, there are some great people there.
