So as some of you know I've only been turning for a little over a year now and I try to think outside of what I feel is the box, but this evening I had to take pause and give credit to those who came before me.

I took a look at the Featured Photo Archives both current and Pre June 2008 and was blown away by turners doing work 3 years ago and further. Well, I can honestly say that I was humbled! There's not much that hasn't been done or thought of already and just when you think you're doing something new that the hobby hasn't seen...well it has been done and it has been seen

There are so many that I could reference, but Skiprat (Steven) really shines, I mean come on man! You have been making amazing pens and blowing minds as far back as your gallery goes...what early 2008? Anyways...I would advise all the new turners to take a minute to look through the archives. If you have more than a minute...look through the 1161 pages on the "Show off your Pens" forum and have a look at the ones that didn't make the archives. We can all learn from the past and there are still those turners out there that were here in the beginning that are still blowing minds.

Color me humbled! Thank you for the inspiration

I love your thinking outside of the box, your work and ideas shine as an example of what is possible, have you submitted to the pen turners guild yet? I think you may have a good shot.

Sadly, all I make is crap.....

But alas, we all can't be talented. But those that do shine the most..

You should never think of your work as "crap", simply a work in progress  I should take a picture of all my failed castings, blown up blanks, ideas that went south...well, I would need to post a couple pictures  Keep turning because you love it...not because others say you should do something a certain way. I think you'll find value in your work!!!

As far as the PTG...I've been asked to look into it before, but honestly I wouldn't know what to send in. I have some time off from work this month due to the new baby so I may have a look at it again and see what I need to do.

Thank you!

Congrats on the front page Tim. I agree, there is a ton of creative thinking on this site. I have certainly been challenged to think outside the box and try new things. I'm glad you are diving in and sharing your work in the forum.
