Well, Yesterday I lost my Buddy my dog Koji to a burst tumor. In the morning he was jolly and jumping ups and downs like himself and barking at the squirrel and just being himself. I was very busy yesterday to get my daughters car ready to take her to LA for her job on Sunday and didn't get around taking Koji to his regular grooming. I asked my wife to take him and nest thing you know I get a call that the poor thing messed up in the car and couldn't move form the grass in front of the house. So, wife rushes him to the ER and well what you know they said that they could see a big mass and his stomach was very swollen. Had to come to the decision that whether or not we wanted to pay for a very expensive surgery and in most cases those type of tumors would have %75 chance of being malignant. Therefore we had to opt on putting him down. Wife and daughter witnessed putting him down and were quite upset. I on the other hands managed it well since I have had experiences with several dogs before.
Koji was a very smart Miniature schnauzer and he was my ears when i would be at home since I have severe hearing loss and can not hear the door bell and he was a very protective dog. We sure miss him and i especially have to figure out a way to teach our Chihuahua how to act with different folks ringing the door bell now. I am sure most of you have had this experience and well it's not an easy one specially the bonds that we make with our furry companions. It just hurts that they can not tell you anything if something is wrong with them until it's too late.
Thanks for letting me write this since I needed to talk about it. I sure miss him.

In his memory.

I can certainly feel your pain on this one, Philly. Our "family" dog has been a Min. Schnauzer for years, going through several of them over the years. They are a special dog, to be sure, and seem to have ears that are super-sensitive. My parents' dog can hear the UPS truck from several blocks away! How can that be? Whenever I visit, their dog follows me into the shop just to "supervise."

The pain of losing one is substantial. The last one we had developed an unusual disease, that would have required hundreds of dollars of drugs per month, and would have extended her life about a year. My parents elected to put her down, and even though we love this dog dearly, we still talk about how sweet the last one was. The only advice I can offer is that after a suitable time period for you and your family, get another one.

Phill, our heart goes out to you and your family. Our family with all the fur coats is very special to us. When one is ill or hurt, it always pains us terribly. When we actually have to do the best thing for them, it is never easy. True love always opens up to pain, but it is always worth it for the love we receive in return. Hang in there dear friend.
Charles

Thank you all. he was so close to me and I think he knew about my hearing loss, he was very prtoctive of me. Lat year he went through this ordeal thinking that the other dog was trying to attack me. I that was hard for us to watch him go through all that pain because of the stiches and all the other stuff.

Bill, we have had three of them and Koji was somewhat special because of his talent and sharpness, plus he was white color that I am sure you know that's rare and his hair was as soft as human hair and somehow he never shed any hair. His buddy the Twinkie(the Chihuahua in the pic.)was so dependant on him for scratching the back door every time they wanted to come in and then she would tease him to play with her. Now, I have to figure out a way to teach Twinkie to scratch the door and everything else.

Bill this breed is very smart, however, I think they are very expensive to maintain. they sure are susceptible to too many illnesses and stones and you name it, unless it has something to do with the way they are bred.
For now, we have to concentrate on my daughter to get her going on the way to becoming an young adult and help her out with this kind of economy.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It is always difficult to say good bye to those we love and care for. But he is in a better and more peaceful place now and you will see him again someday.

Sorry about your loss Phil, I know I'm gonna face the same in the not too far future with my little dog, she is my constant companion. Hope you can get another friend, even though you can't replace him. Robbie

sorry for your loss phil . it is hard to lose him but knowing he is in a better place helps some. i have a almost 12 year old dash hound so i knw that it will be happening to me sometime i just hope that it is later rather than sooner. again i am sorry for your loss

So sorry to hear this! We lost one of our buddies a couple years ago and it hit me hard. I never thought it would, but it does...they really do become a part of the family and you feel the loss.

Best wishes!

Thanks everyone for your words of comforts. It just feels hard and today since he wasn't around, I woke up lale and missed my doctor appointment too. So, there going to be lots of adjusting for me to do (he used to bark around 6:30 or 7:00 no matter what to let him out and feed them). So. I got to figure out a way to hear the clock now. Well, never thought of this day,but I am sure I wil survive until I meet him again.
