Does anyone know if you can take a fallen branch from a civil war battlefield? I was thinking about making some things for my mom with wood from the Gettysburg battlefield. Again, this is a fallen branch, I am not bringing a saw and cutting a live one off of a tree

Not having tried it, I can't give a definitive answer. However, in my experiences in other locations, a well placed request with the head ground keeper will often result in a 'as long as no one else sees you get a small bit, oh heck, here let me help' type answer. This is not the place to test the better to ask forgiveness than permission theory. Just my $0.02.

Yea - a national battlefield and do something illegal would be, well, just bad. Gettysburg is close, I may just stop in one day and ask someone or even one of the rangers - since they'd be the ones arresting me lol. My mom is a huge civil war buff, so it would be nice to be able to actually make something out of a tree off a battle ground.

I know a guy who got some wood that way from the Grand Canyon. Ask the right guy and they will fill a pickup truck for you. Plus if your willing to make a few pens and give one to him/her it goes alot further to requests being filled.
