Both my boys came home from school with lice. Apparently their school is having "issues" but nothing has been sent home. The way the school acted when I called them yesterday, they may not know. Wife took the boys to the doc today to see if we got it taken care of because these little bugs would not die. They are the ones who said the school has an issue. This means parents are not saying anything when their kids are coming home with lice and then sending them back to school while they try "home remedies".

Man what a PIA. Did not get passed to me but did my wife. That is how we figured out they had it. Three days, several pitched out pillows, one tossed out chair and an insane amount of laundry later I think we have it under control.

I need some sleep.

Maybe I can concentrate on getting all my promised pens done this weekend.

YUCK!

We used to have a lady at church who would pick bugs out of her daughter's hair and pop them into her mouth - during the services! Looked like a chimp show on National Geographic.
 
Ya just gotta wonder about some parents some days .... most home remidies don't do a darn thing but they read it in a book or saw it on TV so it must be true.

My daughter came home from school a couple months ago with a note from the school saying 3 kids in the school had head lice ... none in her class but they informed everyone. It is a shame that kind of info can't be passed to all perents everywhere.

That sucks, we have several outbreaks a year back here, Fortunately I don't have any school age children, Although I did when I lived in Texas,and sure enough my son swiped my Cowboys hat, then I got it back, with a bonus.I do have a grand son that is just starting Kindergarten, so I think I'll inspect the little bugger with a magnifying glass before I hug him, Had them once don't want them again.
I honestly don't remember ever hearing of them at any time I was in school, but that was a long time ago.
 
It is normal in schools and can be controlled if parents don't get all freaky about it. But, they keep it to themselves because they are embarrassed, and don't want to go to wally world, and get the shampoo because someone might see them with a box of RID or NIX in their cart. They would probably ratherbe seen with some of them new fangled marital aids before they dared be seen with lice shampoo. Or they are just lazy.

All a parent has to do is call the school and we have protocals to get it under control. yeah their kid will have to miss school until it is under control, but maybe that is the issue.

Schools have protocals if parents talk to them and tell them what is up. Yeah the kid will have to miss school until the situation is taken care of. But I guess the world revolves around them and they do not think about how their actions affect another. I am tired and pretty disappointed in folks.

Those little buggers can live through a nuclear bomb!! kids had them what a pain in the arse to get rid of.
 
I can relate to your pain! We had an episode 2 years ago, my daughter has long hair and had it bad... it was starting to spread to my wife also.
We tried the drugstore stuff, and found out 2 things; first it contains pesticide, second it didn't work worth a darn for us.

Shave their heads.

We went through it. Every year it gets sent home that someone in the kid's class has lice and 2 years ago my daughter got them. It wasn't that bad - laundry, shampoo and the comb.

Now when the cats got fleas - that was a huge PIA.
 
Checking their heads, especially behind their ears. Looking for shiny pearl rice shaped objects sticking to the hair. These are the eggs and they stick to the hair as if they were super glued. Wash hair with RID or NIX and then use a nit comb to comb the hair. This gets the eggs off of the hair and the dead lick from their hidden spots. VERY, VERY TEDIOUS WORK. It took me over 4 hours to comb my oldest daughter's hair, which is very curly and was almost waist length. I had to do this twice while she was growing up.
 
Olive oil

My son came home a few years ago with this problem. I did not want to use the store bought remedies so I went with olive oil. It was not very comfortable for him but a couple of nights with hair soaked with olive oil in a shower cap all night worked for me.

some years ago, my wife and daughter went clothes shopping. That evening my daughter started itching real bad, asked my wife to take a look. She got them from trying on clothes in a clothing store.
