In the US our traditional Thanksgiving usually means a four day weekend, for a good majority of us. We close our Hardware shop down as we only work on days that UPS delivers and pick up ground packages. Like most families we have commitments and will be running around. Years ago when we did the antique circuit, this would be a big three day show for us. Because of this Linda and my Mother would go shopping early on Black Friday as we had to be set up and open by 9am. This was back when there would be 20 people waiting on Target to open or 40 at Best Buy. Now days neither one of us want anything to do with that madness. The kids are grown (physically - mentally is still questionable) so no need to stand in lines to for toys anymore. So I was thinking we might get some shop time in this weekend. This got me to wonder how many of you out there will actually get a chance to enjoy some shop time this holiday weekend?

No shop time here but I will be at the inlaws 100 acres looking at thier downed trees and trying to find some Antler Drops and anything else that can go round and round and round and round......
I dont nor have I ever done Black Friday. I shop on Amazon for the most part and already have most of my gifts in route to me in nice taped up boxes. I cant wait to see your Goobler pen.....wait can you turn a Turkey leg Bone?????? geeze cant even think about eating w/out wondering if I can make a pen out of the leftovers!!!!!

My MIL is visiting (not a bad thing!) and I will be cooking then napping on Thursday. I have been promised two "shop days" over the balance of the weekend. Busman's holiday on the other day to check out two potential shows for next year! (My wife and MIL will be finding goodies at those shows...wish me luck...tho' I guess the lightened wallet will offset the lugging of packages )

I'll have plenty of shop time for 3 reasons. 1) My wife will be working a graveyard shift everyday until this Fri. so she works on thanksgiving. 2) The rest of my immediate family is traveling out of town. 3) I'm all out of resin until next week so no casting until then :frown: (but somewhat  for the break!). So I've got plenty of time, just need to go buy some sandpaper first bc I'm all out!

Happy to hear you'll get some shop time yourself Mike. Enjoy it!

I will get some shop time - in between getting ready for my daughter in law and grand baby coming to spend some time (6-7 months) with us as my son is deploying..

I fully intend on getting some time.....however, my wife may have something to say about that......

I need to finish this kitless prototype I am screwing up!

no time for me. We are traveling to my parents. This will be the first thanks giving in about 4 years that I am not cooking.

Wish I could get some shop time.

This holiday is going to be a mixed bag of things for my family. My little brother (He is a pen turner but hasn't been on here in a long time) is going to be in town (not with his wife/kids unfortunately) because he is in the midwest for training. He'll be deploying in the near future to the Middle East again, so it will be at least another year before I get to see him again.

However, the flip side of that is my 3rd and final show of the season is Saturday. I absolutely NEED to get some more stylus kits done as these are selling pretty good for me and I just assembled my first Virage pen and like it a lot so I'd like to get a few of those out too for the show to see if the public reaction is the same. NOT enough hours in the day, even on holiday!

No shop time here. I took wed-sun off. My niece will be here tomorrow night. So only time in the house with her. We'll do thanksgiving at my aunt's. I can use a few days of r and r. I'm physically drained and have a some medical issues that are keeping me down for a little bit.

Thought I was going to be able to spend thursday in the shop but everyone wants me to smoke the turkey instead of my wife cooking it in the oven. I tried to use the excuse I didn't have any wood chopped but my daughter sent her husband over yesterday to chop the wood. After he chopped a wagon load of wood I have no excuse not to cook so thats where I will be instead of in the shop. Told the wife to be sure and pick up some jalepenos so that I can make some ABT'S to snack on while I am cooking.

I'll be working. the greedy ones that I work for decided that they dont have enough money soi'll be at work. That's including Thanksgiving Day! Plus the 12-hour days, seven days a week for the next two and a half weeks. Money might be good but this is mandatory for me and no way out of it!

Not only will I be getting some shop time this weekend, used up some vacation days to take Monday through Wednesday off as well. So I'm taking advantage of the time to boost up pen inventory for online sales as well as a craft show at work on Dec. 1, which will be by first opportunity to show pens face to face.

We'll be together with family for Thanksgiving day, but otherwise...

In the US our traditional Thanksgiving usually means a four day weekend,

I love these four day weekends but unfortunately I will be in Sunny California away from my shop.

I forgot, when do the four day weekends start? I get my thursdays confused with tuesdays and sometime I think a saturday is wednesday or monday. This all started several years ago and is getting worse. I could have sworn today was saturday! But I'm not overly concerned, when I leave the house for some reason, there is always someone around to ask what day or what time it is!

Gee George it would not bother me if it was just the days of the week that you confuse, but when you can't remember which to put on first, your sock or your shoes. When you forget to pop the top on your soda when you try to take a drink. When you forget to open the garage door before backing out.....Those are the things that make me concerned.:tongue::biggrin::tongue::biggrin:

I'll be busy Thursday but hope Friday and Saturday will result in a couple of pens.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

My eye surgery still will not allow me to get any dust in the air.... just a couple more weeks and then I can have some shop time..........

You ALL are a blast! I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Have fun in the shop when you can. And think about what this holiday means. And, please think about me too! Thank you for being here.

I've been working on Christmas gifts -- some wine stoppers, pizza cutters (from Rockler -- they are really nice), and reversible screwdrivers (I bought a bunch of $3 ones at Home Depot, and removed the plastic handle to replace with a turned wooden handle). I've done a few pens, but last year was pens for everyone in the extended family (18!), so I am focusing on other projects this year.

I lost my job in July, and so I am testing retirement. However, not much time in the shop until recently. I spent until about a month ago doing massive relandscaping in back yard, plus some repairwork on the house. Now that weather is colder, I've moved to indoor projects, split between woodworking and interior remodeling.

I must say I am not sure how I ever had time for work! I've made the most of the time off, and suspect I'll be back to a regular job after the holidays. If not, I may get most of the honey-dos done, if that is really possible ...

I'm off work all week ( gotta use the vacation days or loose them ) so I'll be spending most of the week in the workshop getting caught up on Christmas orders and working on this years Christmas gifts. I recently receive my first delivery of casting supplies ( Alumilite ) so I hope to try my hand at casting this week also.

I am off Thanksgiving day, after that I will be telling police where to go for 36 hours from Friday night till Monday moring. I need a few hours of shop time to get some stuff done before a show on the 3rd.
