Dad got a scroll saw in the workshop, so I took a look and remembered some pens I had asked questions about and decided to give it a shot. It was going to be more complex and ambitious, but I ran out of time. I plan on getting a good bit more advanced with the next one, probably for the PITH pen, as I've been searching for a good idea that seemed a good test of skill.

I would have thought there'd be some critique on this one. I am thinking with the next one the vebeers will be replaced by layers opun layers of construction paper. And be MUCH more intricate.

The first time I have seen you use a commercial center band. I am looking for a scroll saw and am still not sure what I am going to do with it. I had hoped for some characters in the body of the pen.

That's a very cool looking pen. Can you explain a little bit how you did the design on that pen?

This one was essentially cutting long s shaped waves down the length of the blank, then putting a wood glue soaked veneer in there and clamping the two halves back together. Repeat the process trying to make a mirror cut (didn't go as planned) and glue it up. We had another one which came out a lot bettet. We had 3 veneers clamped in a single loooong s shape, and one veneer on the other face. It's up to Dad for pics as he has the pens that came from the blank.

The stock centerband was just a better choice than one I could have made with supplies on hand. The scroll saw is new to Dad's shop and it was just dumb luck I remembered that I wanted to try that. That was the first time I'd used a scroll saw, so maybe next time I'll get a better figure out of it.

Thanks for the information on that.

I managed to snag this picture of the barrel of a Polaris from that blank I posted the picture of. I'm hoping to get something interesting in this same vein with construction paper. I'd like to make that flame in the middle repeat itself a few times.
