Gah, what a mess...

In June I lost my job at the church. Early in Oct, my wife decided that we needed to be in Cali. (Her dad and our son both have cancer, and live here.)

The original plan was to get a big truck, load with our stuff, tow my Saab, and stay with a friend of my wife's. But plans change...

Somehow we ended up buying an RV. But with the RV, that meant we had to get a trailer to pull our crap. That meant either one of us drive the Saab as well, or we sell the car. I sold the car (to a guy who has yet to make a payment... grrr...) and rented a Ya'llHaul trailer.

The house we were supposed to stay in turned out to be a bad idea all around (won't go into details here), so we ended up at my wife's parents. With no space for us in the house, we're living in the RV in the driveway (!) And borrowing my FIL's car for errands, job hunting, etc.

But I got my lathe set up in my inlaws' garage. heh... Now I need a job.

Yay, I think?

At least I have free access to Disneyland (MIL works there).

Life can certainly throw us some interesting curves. It's how we handle it that matters. Your attitude seems great and the smiles in the photo's confirm that. I think you will be fine.

Look at the "positive" aspects. Family is together. Cali "weather" Has to be good. Keep plugging away and things will get better.

Go back and get the Saab or the money if you can swing it. Don't turn the other cheek on this one. Too many people wanting something for nothing these days. You will be able to sell it easier in California any way.

Sorry if this sounds blunt, but the Wimpy "pay you tuesday for a hamburger today" attitude is really ****ing me off.

A co worker and her family lived in a camper for 2 years before they found a place here.

I screwed up on selling it... Even though the Promissory note was done right, I slipped and gave him the title too. I can't have a repo company get it.

I'm too broke to head out and try to retrieve the car. I just keep calling and leaving voicemails. :(

Sold a car to a guy, is it someone you know? I think I would go to his house, knock on the door and either get some cash or the car. You are in need now. I don't know all of the details but man, you need to get that resolved and quick.

Not anybody I knew before selling the car. He was a mess but sounded like he was trying to get his act together. I've had so many people help me out over the years, I wanted to pay it forward and give him a hand up. It backfired, unfortunately.

He's in CO, I'm in CA. No funds to fly back out and try to retrieve the car. It was only a $950 car, not the end of the world. But I sure could use the money right now.

Sorry about the circumstances. Glad that you have the RV and aren't on the floor or worse the street. Hopefully things will work out soon. Your lathe should help to relieve some stress and maybe you could so a Saturday market and make a few dollars to help. One day at a time and things will work out.

How is the work prospect in Orange County? Last I heard from some friends there was a good bit of factory work around Yorba Linda and some new places opening up in Berea. Check with Cal State in Fullerton. nice work if you can get in to maintenance or engineering. Didn't you sell a sharp old VW bus a while back? I sure wish I could find one back here!!
Good luck, and hang in, My wife and I lived in an RV, actually a converted Greyhound Motor home for nearly 3-1/2 years on the road doing shows, selling jewelry. I know it can be interesting, we had my son and daughter with us, We had a house in Texas, but could only get back for 3 or 4 days a month,.
Funny thing is, I kind of miss it, THANK GOD I can't do it any more!!!

Head to Fresno for a day Don...My daughter and I are both cancer survivors. Turn till you drop and any food you guys want is on the house. We have a big driveway so stay a few days...eat well and make pens!!!

Thanks guys! Nice to have some support!

I'm an IT guy, and with a bad back warehouse work just isn't in the cards anymore. I did that back when I was a teenager, but after the surgery not a good idea. ;)

Yeah, sold the bus. Oddly enough, it's in KY now. A guy that publishes a local free paper bought it... I wanna say it was called Green Mountain Times or something like that. Had green in it, and the bus was a perfect match for him.

Sorry to hear about the rough patch you seem to be going through. I do agree with the there people though, at least your family is together and you have additional family out there for support. Keep hoping for the best though. Hopefully things will work themselves out.

Living in a camper seems to be the norm around here.... there's 3 or 4 that I know of where evidently the people bought land, but can't swing putting up a house yet, so they're living in the camper... one person I know has a business in town, her husband has a job at a local subdivision, they have a lot in town, but live in a camper outside of town and have for as long as I've known them, about 7 or 8 years.

Don, I had a 21ft. Coachmen similar to yours for awhile. Stayed on my uncles farm one summer to help them out. I sometimes miss that life. I loved it. I know, the farm is different than your inlaws driveway. Hope things work out for you. BTW, I sold a friend a '75 El Camino and, trusted him to make payments:mad: You know the rest of the story.

Man, tough luck there!

Call the CO DMV, see if they transferred the title already. If they have not, immediately apply for duplicate title.

If he has the title in his name it's gonna be tough. Small claims court is your best bet. But he could lie and say he paid you in cash. Judge will ask for a receipt from him, so small prayer there.

PM or email if you need more help with this stuff.

Update:
Guy who "bought" my car called me last night. Apparently he was in jail. Nice.

Got a part time gig as a Mac technician. $23hr will keep me in propane until I find something perm...

Jeff it may pay more, but the cost of living is much higher in CA than Mich. Don I sure hope things work out the best for you and the family.

Jeff aren't you suppose to be working on some pen design that Linda asked you about. Where is my whip.....
