Turners Magic?

I was looking through some old threads and came across one where someone asked about alternatives to a CA finish and Truner's Magic was mentioned. Someone mentioned that they thought it was only available at PSI since woodrite wasn't responding to inquiries. But I can't find it there. Anyone know if it is still available? Thoughts on how good it is? I've been frustrated with not being able to get a good CA finish and in some cases I'm willing to experiment and hope I can do it, but in other cases I'd rather not and would prefer an alternative.

I saw it in the retail store last week. I prefer the CA finish. The TM will leave more of a "feel" on wood.

What do you mean by a "feel" on the wood? I'm very interested.

I purchased some from PSI not too long ago. I like it. I MM it just like CA and get a very nice finish.

I think it is called something else. I'll go down to the shop and get the exact name in a bit.

I'm pretty sure TM is a lacquer based friction polish...like Shellawax, but with lacquer instead of shellack, and I don't think it has wax..

Mind you, I've never used it - but for some reason that's what I'm recalling.

The finish will "feel" more like a wood product then the plastic "feel" of a CA finish.

Hey Gary, does it wear off easily like friction polish? Being laquer base i'd think it might hold up a long time.

I used Turners Magic on some pens about eight yeas ago. They looked nice for a while but the nice finish faded prety quickly. It really goes fast with minimal use.

Just keep trying to get a good CA finish. You will finally work it out and will be amazed when you do.

I have been using Doctor's Woodshop products for my finishing and really like how they work. They are non-toxic and create quite a nice finish. They appear to hold up well. I used the "turners magic" aka PKFRICT3 at psi. for several years without any problems.But now I have to second "Cindy" and go with the doctors woodshop products.It is also much cheaper the the TM.I use the high build friction polish first
and then I finish with their carnuba wax and shelliac.So far I like it better then the other.

this thread is fairly old, but I loved that stuff. Years ago I got "the recipe" ((supposedly) but in any event it worked well as a finish and was pretty close. Be happy to look if anyone is interested.

Yep. I use it, like it. I still do mostly CA but for problematic (usually oily) woods, it is a good alternative. It does feel less "plasticy" and more like holding bare wood. I am not sure about current availability, I have not ordered it in awhile.
