OK I am a new member to this site & I understand that until I have been here for a while I am the newbie. (note I am 43 years old, married 21+ years & have 3 kids 19-15 & 11, I consider myself to be a seasoned individual) I get a very insulting PM from a guy who is upset because I replied to a "want request" post for some pen blanks & offered to sell some of my "Private Stock" for about what I paid for them, some of them even less just because I wanted to HELP another member. Assuming I am only here to get business to my website?? Note I have not made a single post offering to sell anything on this forum prior nor am I in the business of selling pen supplies. (I make pens & turnings) why would I come to a site that has nothing but pen makers on it trying to solicit pen business? DUH...

My issue is just because I am new, don't assume you know who I am or that I am here for any other reason than to genuinely contribute to others & learn a few things & hopefully make some friends & in general have a good time.

Not going to single anyone out as I have more class than that but definitely did not appreciate the negative tone or comments, I am sure if they met me in person they would not make the comments to my face so why do so in a PM.

Sorry this happened to you. All I can tell you is there is no shortage of goofy people in the world. But, there are also a bunch of great folks here too!

Bill,

Please forward the PM to either our head moderator Curtis (user Mesquiteman) - or Jeff the site owner (user Jeff).

We do want to be a friendly site - PMs like that should not happen and Curtis or Jeff can take appropriate action.

Welcome to the site, please stick around - I think you'll find the number of great people outnumber the few bad apples.

+1. You will find there are some amazing people here who are more than willing to go out of their way to help someone. Unfortunately you will also find there are people more than willing to go out of their way to be a jerk. Don't let these "bad apples" get in your way of learning on this site. I wish I was half as talented as some of the people here.

Hey Bill! Welcome to the site!
You should know that these kind of things are not the rule but the exception (although our moderators might at times feel differently than I do )
and don't listen to Mike, it's the goofy ones that make it great!!!
Hans just used the term goofy because he doesn't know how to spell a$$8@@*!

There are some great goofy people of this site too. I won't name any names but his first name starts with an Ernie.
Well now.....there went your tickets to the Kentucky Derby.....AND the Nascar Race

Hey Bill .....stick around. Your first impressions were correct. More good than bad, by far. Sorry this happened.

Bill sorry that happen, you'll find most of us are more than civil, and at times the written word can come across as not so civil, lets hope he just didn't realize how is sounded when read.

yes to all above. please don't let the bad apples spoil the rest. i would probably be considered somewhat of a newbie compaired to others. everyone here is awesome. i will even admit that i received a negative comment but it was done very professionally and was taken professionally and really helped me in the end. welcome

If you are refering to a "constructive critique" of your work, I know what you mean. When you are able to "handle" the honest and sometimes blunt opinions from some of the really great artists here, that's when your work has a chance to grow and improve. You just have to realize that they are truly trying to help you get better. That's a GOOD thing!!!

The PM was geared towards me looking to gain business by selling some pen blanks that I replied with some extras I could offer to a post by someone as a want & listed prices for them, in hindsight I should have just sent the requester a PM with the list. My bad vibes were geared towards the assumption that just because I was new all I wanted to do was try to sell in this forum. Ironically the guy posted a Drill Doctor for sale right after sending me the PM about selling on the forum...

Oh well Karma will get you one way or another. I know I have tasted it many times-

I just think it's funny folks type things they would never say face to face.

Bill

Sorry Bill. Hang in there with us. Sometimes you need to be above criticism knowing that what you are doing is right.

And you'll find that behavior on EVERY forum you participate in. The anonymity provided by the internet (along with great distances most of the time) raises the level of brashness for most people.

I still feel like a newbie myself and find I have much to learn from the great pool of knowledge on this site. It's good to have you with us.

Hey Bill,

Hang in there! You will find some of the best people in the world here !!!!!!! I can't even afford to turn with my wifes illness and the bills that go with the illness, so I came here to try to sell a few blanks to help with the bills and the folks here have helped us so much it is unreal, sometimes I don't think we would have made it without them !! THEY ARE GREAT PEOPLE, well with an exception or two.

They have treated my wife and me with great respect and expressed nothing but heartfelt good feelings ( and more than likely bought blanks from us even when they did not need them, just to help out).

So like the man said, don't let a bad apple ruin it for you!!

I'd be on your side, except you registered your name on the forums as your own website. If that doesn't scream "i'm here for publicity, not for social interaction", i don't know what does.

Did you look on his site? He is not selling pen blnks on there.

He could be selling cherry cordials, it doesn't matter. The point is he's complaining about being stereotyped as only here to make a buck, yet his very name is nothing but a billboard for his business.

I was not going to make a comment but I will since he pointed out who I am anyway. My PM was not intended the way in which it was received. I was trying to point out to a new member that his post looked like a classified ad and I did a very bad job of it obviously. I have sent him an apology for my message. There was no demeaning intent meant in my message. I made a mistake and I am sure that I will pay for it shortly. I should not have said anything. I have made a decision about what to do to take care that it does not happen again. I apologize to all of our forum members for my error in judgement and it will not happen again believe me. Thank you from the only bad apple on the forum.

Mike, It takes a big person to make a public apology I hope Bill and all the others here will accept it in the spirt it was made, lets now put this to rest.

Welcome Bill and like others have said there's always a few off center people in every crowd. This site is loaded with talented folks that are eager to help and share their knowledge. Stick around and enjoy everything the site has to offer.

Now hold it right there Keith, trying to steal business away from my Snow website I see. Of all the nerve.

hope you don't take it personally its a big site, lots of people with different personalities. and then theirs people who just ... never..... mind i won't go there

Bill I'm also sorry you got such an inhospitable welcoming, This is a great site, and most of the folks here would give the shirt off their backs. Mike is a wonderful person, I've known and dealt with him for a couple of years, it had to have been a misinterpretation, of your post,.
By the way, I love your signature line, I nearly spewed coffee all over my desk when I read it earlier
