Hi all,
I want to ship a briar burl package to one of our military colleagues.
It seems that the Belgian post does not know about APO addresses.
I phoned to the SHAPE's postal office and a clerk told me that to ship through their service I must have an US Id card. And I was again relegated to the Belgian post...
Meanwhile a friend of mine travels tomorrow to the US. If he has some room in his luggage can I give him the box? I've read somewhere that in the US the APO addresses are charged a US shipment by the USPS and forwarded by the military postal office. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice.

Christos.

Christos,

That is correct. APO and FPO addresses are handled by the USPS and then turned over to military postal services. If your friend can carry the items through customs, he can ship the package from any USPS.

Jason

Thank you Jason,
Unfortunately my friend was overloaded...
He had even to remove a lot of (Belgian) chocolates from his luggage... Even if disappointed (for the wood), when I saw the scene, I was so excited for I thought I'll inherit all those goodies. But... no chance... he simply transferred the chocolates to his hand luggage...
Double disappointment... :frown::frown:

Hi Landon,
Thanks a lot for the offer. But as of now, I'll wait a few days for I was explorating other ways. If those prove unsuccessful I'll send you a PM. Thanks again.

Check Zip Code

Hi Chris, You should check this out but I think if you send it regular post with the correct zip code it will probably reach its destination. Most APO/FPO addresses have their own zip also. Everybody in the USA doesn't understand APO either.

Yes Leroy,
Indeed, I've checked the USPS website and their system recognizes the Postal code as an APO one. But my problem is from here, that is from Belgium. I talked to a lot of postal guys and gals and nobody knows about APO. What I'm (and they too) are afraid of is, assuming they accept the package, the postal guys at the airport center wouldn't know where to dispatch the shipment. Thus, among the answers I'm waiting for, is a definite answer from the international service of the Belgian post.

I'd also be happy to forward it for you Chris.
