Every so often people post about making pens as a craft or art. Well Saturday I went to the post office, because a worker there was on my grandmother about me coming in, because she was interested in pens. She bought a cholla Jr. Gent, a bullet w/ jack daniels blank, and 2 cigars with poly resin. She stated the polyresin work was art, and the rest was craftsmanship. I was not really sure if she was correct, but when she put cash in hand her opinion seemed like it had a whole lot more credibility. So until someone buys 5 pens from me at once, I agree with her.

Great sale!
In a way I can see her point to the reasoning of wood pens take something created in nature and was crafted into something, such as fine furniture. Where as resins in all it's forms was a creation of adding colors to the medium, basically the way an artist puts paint to canvas.

I'm not convinced

I'm still on the side of craftsman - money is not what determines craft or art and most of the postal employees I've known, while perfectly nice people, have not been particularily well versed in the fine arts.

I am also still of the opinion that being called craftsman (or woman) is as high an honor as artist.
