Is it a world-record hack???

So says the hacker!! Sunday it was 10,000 sites, by Sunday night the claim grew to 70,000---now it has reached a WORLD RECORD: SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND SITES hacked!!!!!

So, is it a world record hack or a world record EXAGGERATION!!! We don't know, but our sites are back up, so we can only claim to be "unknowing participants" in this attempted record-setting fiasco!!

The hacker claims to be from Bangladesh---must have a heck of a IT training program in those schools!!

(Fertile fields for new employees, Jeff!!)

Given the descriptions given there compared to what I have seen elsewhere, this barely qualifies as a hack.

He/she/it may be a very talented hacked, but getting minimal access to one system is not very impressive.

I'd go after your hosting service - do they have SLA's?

This was probably kiddie script level of penetration, that should have been patched for.

I think media throw around the term 'hack' to easily these days. Same with virus -- everything is a 'trojan' now days. I would agree with Seer, bunch of script kiddies with no real skills .

Apparently he was motivated by QUANTITY, rather than QUALITY----Thankfully, from our point of view!!

Not saying it is, but a lot of times things like these are a ruse for the real intent, which may have been to drop malicious code into a specific site and wait until its needed for something.

Your host company must be pretty lax at patching their hosting servers to have been open to a compromise of this scale - or had some inside help for the hackers to tell them about the vulnerability.

screw classes, if you have internet you can learn anything
proof - i taught myself programming  http, php, asp, c++, vb.net, more
in many cases the internet outdoes classes by having tons of examples, videos, cut&paste material, etc
do i know everything? no, but friends with a $300k/yr jobs come to me when stuck

For the hacker savvy...
Capt Crunch was one of the forefathers of hackers and also wrote beneficial code while serving a jail term

I did not get hacked. My website is a fortress open for your viewing pleasure, although I haven't updated it in so long you can hear the crickets singing. Had to renew service yesterday, forgot how expensive it is, I need to work more on this situation some day. I need 60 hrs to be a day.
