I've seen the demo for the Saw Stop at my local Woodcraft.
"Awesome!" doesn't quite cover it.
He used a hot dog to simulate flesh.
The system sends a metal brake (block) into the saw blade with such great force it sounds as loud as a rifle going off. The break is toast when this happens and has to be replaced (IRRC they cost about $70).
Uh! Gotta replace the aluminum brake, huh?? Has anyone thought about how many of those little carbides may be knocked loose from the blade or at least damaged? Does it also require the replacement of a $125 thin kerf? Just my .02 If the reviews are good on the new version, It just may be the one for me!
I've seen what the brake looks like after use. Had about a three to four inch deep gash from the blade.
This system appears to operate differently since the vid says that you can immediately go back into operation without any changes. However he did say it goes from spinning to complete in about 1/8 second.
