I've had it with a crazy neighbor that goes to all lengths to harass us about having a bird feeder in our yard. Spraying some type of chemical into the yard, the fence, and once spread some type of pellets around the feeder. We now padlock our gates, but we caught him spraying into the yard at 10:00 tonight. I need to get a system installed that will monitor our side yard and back yard while recording anyone coming around. I'm ready to send that crazy bas@#!@# to jail. Any help would be appreciated.
Heck of a post for number 900, but he's pushed me one too many times.

Just out of curiosity, what is his objection to the bird feeder? They, and the birds, are pretty harmless (unless you're part of an Alfred Hitchcock movie or something).

He's our neighborhood version of Monk. He thinks I draw the birds into the neighborhood with the feeder, and then they poop on his deck. We've lived next to each other for 34 years and had always been on good speaking terms. I've helped him out for years as well. He's now 75+ and just seems to be loosing it. His adult daughter has tried to help us, but a month or so after she talks to him, he's back to his crazy ways. She gets another call tomorrow with threats of a restraining order and security cameras this time.

What a wacko, Im assuming he has a problem with the noise? how loud can a couple songbirds get?
ya people throwing poison in my yard would bug me too, I just hope you dont have pets!

deer and game camera

You can get motion activated cameras at hunting stores that are set up for nocturnal. Animals for 60 to 75 bucks at places like gander and mountain or basspro sho the photos can be downloaded via usb port and also have a time stamp feature.. good luck

The best "cheap" system on the market is the "night owl". It is available at Samsclub.com. the basic recorder and four wide angle, non-moveable, night vision cameras, and network interface for smart phone access is usually about $400.

ON THE OTHER HAND, Cabala's has a net that you can throw over this guy until the happy wagon arrives with the white coats and lollypops, for $19.95. Right now, Cabala's is offering free FedEX shipping.

Good luck.

Not sure what type of critters you all have down there but from my experience in this country bird seed brings a whole lot of other critters, and for one here it is RATS and I hate rats. Not that I am taking sides with that twit as there are ways to go about things like this, and trying to kill the birds is not one of them.

First let me preface this by saying I'm not a mental health professional, but since the neighbors 75+ and you've lived next to him for 34 years and this has only recently become a problem, it sounds like the onset of mental problems. I'm sure there is an Adult Protective Service in your community, I'd contact them. The neighbor may have more problems than you are aware of.

Be careful on how you position a camera. If it's pointed at anything(I mean anything) other then your property you are infringing upon the rights to other peoples privacy.

"Doesn't matter how much 'weed that guy is selling', you can't point a camera at him", says the cop.

"Can I point my gun at him?", says me.

"I'll take you to jail if you do.", says the cop.

At this point I invite him to leave my property, and not come back unless donuts are on sale and his fat butt can't eat them all.

When seconds matter around here, cops are only minutes away...unless you can pay the fine immediately and there is no threat that they could be harmed in any way.

I agree with Mannie. There has to be something mental going on. Have you talked with the police since you have "seen him" do this. They may be able to get some mental health started.

A voice of reason.........over a decade in ICU's as a RN across the nation and I'd say he is in the early stages of dementia, his family probably has no idea how bad he has gotten. Dementia is far worse in the evenings, "sun downers syndrome" is one of several monikers used to describe the situation.

Yeah kinda a crappy 900th post... However congratulations on it, despite the content.

Might want to have the area that he sprayed analyzed to see what they sprayed... just to protect you, your family, and ground water. and any future visits from the EPA.

I just wonder however if you call your local police and have them set at night, and watch that section of your property for this guy. It would be a whole lot cheaper, and with the fact there is to be a full moon soon... it can't hurt.

Ditto... I use game cams for my yard and on a property I hunt, you can get IR ones and he won't see the flash that way.

I have a Moultrie, Wally World sells some cheap ones from time to time.

I think whoever told you this may be wrong. There is no expectation of privacy in an open back yard. The issue is usually whether you are legally authorized to be in the location from where you video'd. If you are standing in your property and photographing illegal activity from a legal vantage point....i.e. not climbing trees, etc. then you should be fine.
In either case, sounds like you need to contact the county attorney's office or the DEA and get some help beyond the local beat officer.
