I might have something........whats the size and thread count of the center hole? I dont have the adapter in the pick but I do have an old chuck like that.

That adapter would work with the one I have. Are you sure you wouldn't rather a self centering chuck? I never use the one I have and I would send it out for say $20 to cover shipping and fuel for the truck.........let me make sure I can find the key and rethink a self centering chuck.

Chuck thanks for the link!!!!

The Shopsmith Mark V, 500 and 510 all us a 5/8" straight spindle shaft (no threads) with a flat spot to tighten all the accessories to it with an Allen screw. So the Grizzly H8040 Chuck would fit directly on your Shopsmith.

The independent jaw chucks are great for off set turning or for working a rectangular piece of wood for a turned box or similar. Think of a two or three pen holder with a rectangular shape and sliding the piece between two jaws to shape the pen holder.

Specialty for sure -- but useful for some applications --

Be careful ordering.

The H8040 is a self centering chuck, not an independent jaw chuck. The H8047 is the independent jaw chuck that fits the shopsmith directly.

FWIW, I use the PSI 1x8 adapter with the PSI barracuda chucks on my shopsmith and it works well.

I just started doing this as well using the PSI adapter for my shopsmith:

And then mounted the baracuda chuck onto it:

The setup has been working great so far!

Great idea, but for 139.00 I think I will get the grizzly for now.
