I have been trying to log onto Windows Update and keep getting a 404 Error message, Server Connection Error messages and redirect while loading messages.

Anti Virus current... scanned daily...
SpyBot current and and scanned daily...

Running XP through and connect through a Router and have no issues with anything else...

I doubt seriously that MS Windows Update is down...

Any thoughts?

I know that Microsoft has planned on no longer servicing XP. Not sure when the cut off is though. I did a reinstall of XP last week on a friends machine and did some updates and didn't have any issues. It could be their server is down. Microsoft is a magnet for hackers. I would say try again tomorrow. Or google when they no longer plan to support XP.

The thing is... when I click on the Windows Update link from Google, it errors out with a variety of server messages... Same thing when I to access it through the START Menu or any other avenue.

I don't even get to the point of telling them what version of the Windows OS I am using... So, unless they can intuitively tell while the Update Site is trying to load, I am assuming they don't know I am using XP.
 
You say it redirects you...where? What site does it take you?

I would turn off your anti-virus protection and try to connect again. Nortons is very bad about blocking good sites and poor at keeping the bad stuff out.
 
Actually mine finally went through. Maybe it is back up???
I did the update through the browser link. Took it forever to come back. Usually it is very quick.
 
IPv6 is being tested today (been running 5 months now) but today was the big kickoff. Everything I seen has allowed a increase in traffic. M$ might be doing something on thier side but the rest of the world is booming. We are about to change how the world connects

From the MS Update Link in Google, the TAB in Firefox says it is "redirecting" but then a warning box comes up saying:

"The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

And everything stops.


I wonder if it is because I am using Firefox and not Windows Exploder?
 
I updated XP to Service Pack 3 and still no joy...

I do keep getting: "Could not find C:\WINDOWS\dxsaprsr.dll Unable to locate module."

A Google search on that .dll file comes up empty.

If any one has that .dll file and can send it to me with the location to drop it, I would appreciate it... assuming it is actually something I need...:confused::confused::confused:
 
Windows Update for XP is OK now

I started my XP system and ran the Window update a few mins ago. I use IE when running Windows Updates. The Windows Update site does time out frequently in my experience. I use it several times a week with multiple operating systems and PC's.

Not initially. But I have since.

I have disabled the Firewall to make sure that it was not causing any server issues.

I have tried to do a System Restore to about 3-4 weeks back but I get a message that it is unable to restore from that point.

I started getting these issues after installing CCleaner a few days ago... Now wish I hadn't.

Really weird about not being able to access Windows Update and nothing on the dxsaprsr.dll from a Google search...

Just for grins, download and run Malwarebytes from Malwarebytes.org.

It is free, and finds stuff SPYBOT and virus checkers miss.

I have seen the same problem more than once. Registry cleaners can do bad things. Did you back up your registry before running the cleaner? You can restore your registry and probably fix the problem. If you didn't,
check your windows services, Windows Update should be in the list of installed services. If the windows update service is no longer installed, there are a couple of KB's on Microsoft.com about reinstalling it.

If the update service is installed, you have probably have a registry issue. This happens all too frequently when users try to remove and repair damage done by malware or viruses/worms.

I would start looking for your XP installation DVD and consider reinstalling XP. Or you can install Windows 7 and upgrade if your hardware will support it. There is no upgrade path from XP to Windows 7 so a clean load is the only option.

Been there and done that a couple of times recently. Not as much as wood turning but it pays the bills.
 
... looked into what it will take to upgrade to Windows 7. MS had a video with a run-down but claimed I needed to install their verification software to view the video, as it required the most current version of Media Player.

I downloaded the Verification.EXE file to my Desktop and then checked my Media Player version, which was already the most current. So I tried to delete the Verification.EXE file and it won't let me delete it!!!


MS... right up there with CHASE Bank!
