OK, we got it adjusted, got the insert for the supernova, and it is turning well.

He wants to turn pens. Do I just start him out directly TBC? If so, how do I get a 60 degree point with a 3/4"x10 thread!

Or a mandrel?

How do people turn pens on one of these?

Is there such a thing as a 3/4"x10 thread to MT2 female adapter?

could a regular mandrel rod be gripped in the supernova? Would he need pin jaws?

Sharon, I'd be inclined to find someone with a metal turning lathe to make up an adaptor with the 3/4X10 thread with a 1/4 UNF thread (both internal) to screw the mandrel into, at the same time the same person could turn a 3/4X10 with a 60degree point so that you/he had both options.
A 3/4 to MT2 would be to unweildy in my honest opinion.
To the best of my knowledge no such items are available commercialy. There must be plenty of KIND GENTLEMEN with metal lathes on this forum to help a LADY out!!!!!
I personally wouldn't grip the mandrel in the jaws.

If you are talking about needing a 60 degree drive center, you can make one that can be gripped in the super nova, but then you would have the run-out of the super nova.

I'm assuming your drive spindle has a taper in it (just not MT2) so if a 60 deg drive center is not commercially available, I think the best alternative is one of the following:

1) Have someone make a 60 deg dead center that matches your splindle taper. For TBC this is probably would give best results, but for a beginner you may just want to:

2) use a mandrel. Then, eventually as skill increases, they can:

3) Get a collet chuck and chuck a dead center. With patience You can make a 60 deg dead center using some round rod and a file. A collet chuck also opens up may more possibilities.
