I need someone smarter tham me (which is probably anybody). I have an old PSI pen press that works fine except for pressing in cigar nibs. If I press in a cigar nib I get little dimples (dents) on either side of the nib. So I thought I'd be smart and use the steel plunger portion (reverse the pen) and it pressed it right in but it appears to have compressed the hole so now the ink cartridge (shaffer style) hangs up in the hole. Any ideas?

Absolutely - most of us have learned this one the hard way Scott so don't consider yourself as any less smart than anyone else on here! :smile:
 
That is the way to do it and for now just going to have to ream it with either a bit or a reamer. I probably would try using an awl first. Take the nib off and put on a hard surface and try pushing the awl point in. This way you will not remove any plating which can become a problem later. Good lucj and lesson learned.
 
I started out with one of those presses and, it didn't take long for me to bend the front brace. I got a 6" DP vice from HF and, put some padding on both faces. Takes a little longer for set up but, smooth pressing over all. Just sharing info and, not suggesting you do as I did.
 
Yup, that's the way to solve that nasty cigar issue. I also had a shop friend of mine weld 1/2 x 1/2 angle iron to the weak metal where it tends to bent in the PSI jig. I usually use a clamp, hand or bench, but last weekend during a demo I used a hand squeezy type clamp and bent the brass tube beyond repair so be careful.
