Seems like these days when someone posts their work and asks for comments, all they get are a bunch of... "nice pen" "fantastic work" "out of this world" "absolutely beautiful" and on and on, but not one constructive bit of advice, even on some pretty rough and ugly pens!
Have we become so blase that we can't even tell someone that their the triple multi-colored orange and purple "oops band" looks like crap on a yellow and blue pen that's shaped like an hour glass ready to explode pen!
George, I thought you liked my pen!!!
I rarely post. I look at almost all of the pens posted and comment on a few. The suggestion to limit it to one w/ a couple of close ups is dead on. Be careful what you ask for. Another suggestion is to ask an obvious veteran for a personal appraisal.
Most of us have posted photos of pens that had little to no comments. Part of the reason is we are such a varied community-what appeals to me, may not appeal to you. For this reason, I (and others) am reluctant to post a criticism of something that you are obviously proud of. For myself, I am just happy that people all over the world took the time to look. A few have sent comments but public and private to make me a better turner. I appreciate those.
The other issue is volume. Sometimes, there are just too many out there. Weekends generate alot of photos and posts. Not so much the middle of the week. To avoid being lost in the clutter, try posting your pens on Wed or Thurs.
Sorry, I got long winded.I'll try not to let it happen again....
George, if you want the triple multi-colored orange and purple "oops band" looks like crap on a yellow and blue pen that's shaped like an hour glass ready to explode pen, I'll trade you for one of your plain, hand crafted, custom FP's. Let me know, I bet I can make one.
