The mafia has nothing on girl scouts. I'm cheap, Pay or you will break my legs and I have to think about it. A little brown haired girl with 3 teeth missing smiles up at me and goes," Would you like to buy some cookies?" and I'm headed for the ATM and offering my truck in trade. Worst of all they now hang out in front of Lowes and Home Depot so their is no escape. I love this time of year.

And that box of chocolate mints(my favorite), that used to be 1doz for $3.95 is now $9.95 for 6 cookies:frown:. But who can resist:confused:

Little girls, cookies, and soft hearted old men just go together:biggrin:

Just say NO!!! I usually have them send a few dozen boxes over to the troops instead of them being dinner for the 2 teenage boys in my house.

I suffered the same extortion 2 weeks ago. I may need to set up another appointment. Ran out of the mints and I'm down to a half box of peanut butter.

So far, I've resisted the temptation to actually aquire any cookies (but there have been a few boxes sent to the troops :-)

Now, if only I could be as resolute about new pen blanks.

Sending those cookies over to the troops is a great way to keep the pounds off and still help out those cute little gals that are just learning what "sales" are all about! Unfortunately, we didn't quite resist the temptation but hey - I have a couple of guys around here that will finish them off for me!!

M daughter was a scout and when I found out just how little actually went to the local troup, I just now give a cash donation directly to the girls.

Apparently in some areas big Merchant Providers like PayPal and MerchantFocus are donating card swipers and services to girl scouts for whatever time (a few days or a week...... whatever) to sell their cookies. So if this catches on you won't have to hit the ATM.

Nor will you have an excuse:)

The little girl down the street showed up at the door yesterday afternoon with our order.
As I was sampling the first box my wife starts (as she has been doing a lot lately) reading off how many calories in 4 cookies. :frown::mad:
I told her to shut up and pass me another one!:wink::smile:

:beat-up: I think the troop idea is a good one!

just couldn't resist. I remember when my daughter was in the Girl Scouts and buying cookies became a family tradition and storing them in the freezer for Christmas became a special occasion.

Another tactic is to buy 1-2 bozes every time you see them, instead of buying 7 cases and then telling them for another month "I already bought a lot!".

I just cannot bear to tell them "No", and see the disappointment in their precious little faces. (I have two daughters, and two grand daughters, so I am kind of a pushover ...)

I've decided this year I like the lemon ones best (cannot rememebr the name, but they are built like an Oreo ...).

My wife likes the Thin Mints and peanut butter patties.

And whether they are called Samoas or Carmel Delites, we always buy these!

Woah, gotta run to my Weight Watchers class ...

And how long before you came to, with the frying pan shaped like your face.

I like charles approach, when we too found out how much the girl scouts really get from the cookies. The makers get a HUGE profit off those things.

love those Thin Mints!! cant afford them anymore so just give a cash donation.

Then was at the Dollar store and low and behold they sell most of the same cookies the GS do at 2 bucks or less a box

Wrapped in the same foil wrap so no more buying GS cookies they really dont get all the $$ dollar store is there each day of the year:eek:

I bought $100 dollars worth from each of my Granddaughters, so that's $200 dollars worth. So to avoid gaining to much weight and getting diabetes I kept a few boxes of my favorites and took the rest to the homeless shelter for the morning coffee. Thank god the Cub Scouts don'e sell cookies, no the sell flavored Popcorn, same thing happens I buy it and tell them to give it away. The thing that tick me off is the girl have to sell 1000+ boxes to get the bigger nice prizes like an iPod or going to camp. For $200 I got 50 boxes of cookies so it will be a long road of selling to get to 1000 boxes. Rant off.

Yep. me too. I usually just give the cash I would have spent to the adult on premises... I don't need the cookies, and they get 100% of my money. Win-Win.

I mentioned that to my wife and she informed me that the GSA hierarchy will not allow them to take donations that way ... They want it all for themselves! (They are actually run BETTER than the mafia!)

I'm a sucker too, Granddaughter hit me up, ordered 4 boxex .She turned around and called G-ma and she unknowly ordered 5 more boxes, quick thinker, that little girl.

Neil I compromised this year I bought only half of what I normally do and sent the same amount as a donation to the troops...saved me some unneeded calories and gave the guys over there something from home.

I get a few boxes a year now. The Samoa used to be may fav but with the added weight I eat the Trefoils now. The wife eats the Tagalong and son eats the Thin Mints. I will still have a couple of the others.
I am no longer allowed to buy them myself, well not if I am going to take them home . A couple years ago I played in the local troops golf fund rasier and came home with a case of thin mints and we had to put 10 boxes in the freeze. Wife thought it was over kill considering we had both bought boxes from people we knew who had kids in GSA.

I'm sorry, but them 8-year-old girls are just too tough for me. Had three of them trip me up in the middle of the mall and held me down and forced me to buy 2 boxes of Caramel delites.

I'll occasionally buy the cookies because I like cookies... but on the note of how much goes to the troop... I never had girl scouts but when my son was a scout, we held a "mulch" sale... we got about $3 a bag for about 6 cu.ft. of mulch and the scouts delivered and stacked it in the customers yard or vehicle or what ever... the year I was involved we sold something like 10 x 40' trailers of mulch... one of my scout dads volunteered to let us unload in his driveway... we had mulch stacked 6 ft high the length of his drive way and out into the street and on the curb... but at the $3 per bag it was selling almost as fast as we could get it off the trucks... part of the monies went directly to the troop and a portion went to the individual scouts who worked the sale... they got their camping trip paid for, some of the collected enough to pay for the scout camp, back packs and other camping gear.. I don't know if BSA National got any of the funds or not... I wasn't in charge of the accounting... I did transportation... I found a trucker that was hauling cans east and needed a back haul to cover fuel expense... I bought mulch in Alabama and Georgia, they loaded the trucks and we unloaded in the "volunteer's" yard... I noticed the next year they moved the operation to the Wal-Mart parking lot.
