As some of you may know, I am a bomb technician. Was cleaning up a storage facility the other day and managed to collect a few bakelite rods that are used as dust plugs in SPM limpet mines and F1 hand grenades.

They are, unfortunately, only 10mm in diameter and a tad over two inches in length which means I'm forced to make some bakelite slims

Once I get my hands on a decent collet chuck they will be transformed into creations of beauty!

You do get black rods, I just haven't found any yet.

Terry, I didn't know you were a bomb technician  !!! Holy cow...There has got to be easier ways to get bakelite rod . Seriously, please be careful!!... I really don't like losing friends.. Regards, Doc

So....what's the standard wish that one makes to a person in your field???? Good Luck???? Break a Leg??? Don't Cut the Blue Wire!!! ??? Vasbyt???

Terry, the rods would obviously have significance to your colleagues, but unless they have neat colours or swirls are they worth the effort?
Once you drill a 7mm hole, you are left with only a 1.5mm wall thickness.

If it was luck most of us would be but a memory

Come to think of it, we don't have a specific standard wish that I can think of

Steven I know its only 1.5mm thick but as you say, it will have appeal to the blokes in my field. I wont know whats under the outer laying until I turn it (if theres anything to turn). There seems to be slight pattern to it, who knows, time will tell!

Otherwise I'll drill a 3mm hole and fit it with a BIC refill :biggrin:

Couldn't you just treat the rod as if it had no tubes like a aluminum blank??? Seriously man keep the head in the game:eek:
