Bought a USB wireless mouse just before Christmas to use with my lap top. All was working great until yesterday when the mouse would barely move the curser and when it does slightly move the movement is 90* off. I tried changing the battery twice and even changed the USB port I had the receiver plugged into. No improvement.
Anyone have any idea what went wrong and how to fix it?

just curious does this mouse have a trackball in it...flip it over and you should see a ball with a round cover. If it does perhaps the wheels that tracks the ball is dirty....that's all I could guess.

Sounds like something in the optics is off... Sometimes they don't like shiny surfaces so are you using it on a table vs mousepad? If not sound like something may have just failed. It happens.

Nope, it's optical.

Tried on a black pad, white pad, jeans and even moving my finger over the optics. Nothing works.

Monty go into the Contol Panel and find the mouse app make sure the speed and track controls have not gone array.

Lin.

One source could be interference. Any lamp (that have a balast in it) like allogen can give you trouble. Just check around your pc or mouse for any electrical source and try moving them away. i have seen that often in the office.

Monty:
Change your mouse pad. Sometimes with an old mouse pad, they get indented and dirty and makes it difficult for the optical reader in the mouse to make calculations. I change pads every time I change rodents.

Additionally, I only buy Logitec or Microsoft mice. The others just don't seem to last. My life is way to short to spend a lot of time figiting with a $20 mouse.

If after changing the batteries and hitting the connect button, if you still see no light that confirms that you have CMS ( cheap mouse syndrome). Go to Wal-Mart, buy the Logitec $25 USB optical mouse and quit wasting time trying to fix junk.

It is a Logitech I got from Office Depot right after Christmas. Got the MP at the same time.
Tried all the suggestions mentioned except call Tech Support (mainly cause all they'll do is read me their check list in broken English).
I'll probably just give up and go get a new one later today.

Did you get some CA on it? Just kidding..I would just take it back for a replacement, or another brand.

Do you also have a optic keyboard??? If so you need to relink. If i remember correctly you need to hold down for a few seconds to get the thing blinking and the same needs to be done with the keyboard. That always worked for me. Turn the on/off button first and then procede if you first installing. They are on the underside of the rat.

You'll be surprised then. I buy logitech BECAUSE their support is A-MAZ-ING!! My speakers, mice, keyboards, pads, joysticks, etc... are all Logitech. EVERYTIME I've had a problem for the most part they accept that I did everything on their online checklist, gather some purchase information from me and get a new one on it's way. Their Waranty is awesome, their people are awesome and they are johnny on the spot making things right.
