Anyone interested in a smaller (maybe) version of the Midwest Penturners Gathering? Same day, same time, same station. We'll call it 2011, version 2. Jerry Rhodes and I were talking at the Central IL Woodturners get together today, and he asked if I would like to ramrod such a deal. He thinks we can still get the union hall on that day, Saturday April 16th. We won't have but a fraction of door prizes, but if we can get some volunteers, besides myself, to demo, have a pen swap, have a blank swap, have a pen contest, and who knows what else, I think we can still have a blast. I hate to see a missed year in this really great event, so what do you all say? LET'S DO THIS!!!! I'll be the main contact, but any others who want to handle parts of this would be appreciated. I think we can have some venders like always (I still have about 5,000 or more wood blanks to get rid of) wait that's 5,000 door prizes right there! Let's see what everyone wants to do, and send me a private email if you want to help. There's still plenty of time to get this going, pass the word.

Rich,
Will this be held in Peoria?

It will stay at the Carpenter's Union Hall in Champaign. Personally, I would like it to be in Peoria, but I want to keep the tradition from the past in place. We can get the Indy guys over pretty easily, and not a horrible trip down from Chicago. I've heard of some interest from Northern Il people, Dekalb, Batavia, and Chicago, so maybe some of those folks can car pool. It's the Iowa guys that have to pay the price the most. I'm encouraged with the early response, it might just take off. Stay tuned.

I can be there; I can do demos, I'll bring along some door prizes if you want them, and I'll bring some kits to sell if you like. It has been a good event in the past and I'd like to help out any way I can.

I'd love to come. But last time I went my daughter had a baby so now, for the rest of time, that weekend will be reserved for a Birthday. :frown: If only she could have held off for just 1 more week!

If not too much to ask, 1 from all the above would be great. Thanks Gerry! I'm getting the feeling this is going to take off like I thought it would. I'll make the call before March 1, but as it stands right now, we will be having the Gathering.

Thanks again for stepping up, Rich

Did I miss something? Has this years MPG been cancelled, moved or rescheduled?

Greg is a bit overwhelmed this year, and Jerry Rhoads is doing a show that day. I think others that helped last year are also busy, so Greg announced that the event was off for just this year. Jerry asked me if I was interested in taking over, and I innocently said, "Why not". I'm very confident that we are going to build the momentum back up. I'll announce this weekend that the event is officially back on. The union hall has been reserved for Sat. April 16th. Doors open at 8:00 am, first demo at 9:00.

Pat, I'll send you an email about a vendor table if you are interested in returning. I had asked Greg for a contact list from last year for the vendors, but you beat him to the punch.

I have some door prizes I want to donate to the cause. I will also sponsor the pen contest with plaques and prizes. I am planning on being there as I have always wondered what it is like to "attend" the MPG!!!!!!!! It's gonna feel wierd I think!!!!!!

I just want to thank you again Dick for stepping up to see that the MPG takes place for the 5th year in a row. If I recall correctly, isn't this your 5th event as a demonstrator? (well, I assume you will be demonstrating!! LOL!!)

Looks like it is only a couple of hours from STL. If I leave at 6 am should be there for the first demo. The only thing in my way is the birth of my first grandson. Hope he cooperates.

Thanks Greg. I am going to demo, but waiting to see what others will demo so maybe I can fill in the blanks (pun intended). I've been doing surface decoration on my other turning work, so may just see what I can do with my wood pens. This will be my 5th year, I've seen them all!!!!! I started out this post with questions, and most of them have been answered. We are going to have the event. When I get a couple more commitments, I'll announce the program and start a new post. Jeff is throwing in his support, and is looking for a way for us to keep a post active here for communication back and forth. If nothing else, I'll keep bumping it to the top. A certain supplier and princess from Wisconsin has expressed interest, looks like the vendor selection will top knotch. Start saving up guys!!!!

Don't know if we'll make it this year or not yet... we missed last year due to some health problems with the missus.... CU is her home town and we have two daughters and all of the grand daughters there... we can maybe combine visits.
