Hey Floridians . . . are there any good woodworking stores or exotic wood dealers along I-75 from South Georgia down to Orlando? If you know of any places that are worth stopping at . . . please give the details of where to find them.
Thanks!

Not sure about the area that you're traveling, but if you ever get North of Atlanta you should check out Peach State Lumber in Kennesaw. They have a lot of exotic woods sold rough cut by the board foot. Really good prices too. They also have some huge burls etc. No pen blanks, but if you're looking to build something else, definitely worth the trip. Here's their website.

Yeah, I know, but I figured if you're ever up this way it would be worth knowing about, especially since you're not that far away.... Good luck!

Doc, having made that trip, I believe the only exotics (other than "dancers") you will see are pine, pine, pine, palm, pine, pine, pine, live oak, pine, pine....

Hope Im wrong but I dont remember seeing any an my travels northalong 75 to atlanta. At least not near the interstate.

Jon they do have that "alll nude all the time" place somewhere along the way. I have never been there but the billboards are still up. Still Im not sure that falls under the exotic woods he"s looking for.

I've bought some exotics from these guys before, but never made the trip to visit. Here is the contact info:
http://www.amazonexotichardwoods.com/CTUS.html

I live less than 2 miles from this place. They have a great selection of exotics from pen blanks all the way up to boards. Then about a mile and half from here is our local Woodcraft store!

No wonder I can't seem to save any money!

For Amazon Exotic Hardwoods, make sure you get off I75, which turns and goes down the Gulf coast, and get on the Turnpike to access the Rat Kingdom and Central part of the State.

I agree that Amazon Exotic Hardwoods has some great wood. I left a lot of money with them. They are located near rt 436 and 17-92. Take money......you'll find things you can't live without.

Been there done that trip many, many times....one of the most boring drives in the United States......Unless of course you need to see pine, pine, pine and more pine......

Cafe Risque at the Micanopy exit off I-75.
When folks come to visit us from up north, that's how I describe where they get off.
[take that anyway you wish!]

Doc,
When you passing thru?
If this weekend, send me a pm and get off at Cafe Risque;
my home is about 7 miles south of the exit and there's plenty of WW'ing to see here and some exotics to take back.

If you have the time, you might want to try Craftsmen Supply in Tampa. It is a smalll locally owned place with a decent selection of exotics, pen kits (they distribute throgh PSI), tools, etc.

While it is small, they have some good stuff and they are about 1 mile from I75 -the Fowler exit in Temple Terrace.

Craftsmen Supply Center
5011 E Busch Blvd
Tampa, Fl 33617

If you have the time. It may be worth it.

Gary . . . sorry we won't have a chance for a little BBQ. Maybe next time?

Carmen . . . thanks for the lead. I'm afraid that I'm not going to have time for a Tampa trip. Too bad . . . I'd look up Bruce. BTW where is your school? Interestingly enough, it the Association for Teacher Educator's Conference that I'm attending (and presenting).

I used to live in that same area .... the internets make a small world!

I hadnt really started woodworking back then, so I never ventured to Amazonexotics ... did spend some time at Woodcraft though

Cris beat me to it. I buy from Amazon all the time. Great place with great prices and it's almost guaranteed they're gonna have what you want (unless it's Aussie or Hawaiian).
