Alton had open heart surgery today.
His wife said that the doctors were happy with the surgery, and things went well.
He is still sedated, so Charlie (newlondon88) did not get to talk to him yet.

Because they had to open his chest, he will not be able to do much for the next few months.

Wow!! I didn't know he had problems. I hope it is not too bad..... My initial thought to that statement is, anytime they have to crack your chest open it is not good!

Well, tell Charlie that IAP is thinking of him and to get well soon!

Thanks for keeping us up to date, Jerry!!!

Wish Alton a quick recovery---don't make him laugh.
(I am told the staples hurt lots when you laugh)

Thanks again!!

Wow Jerry, this seems really sudden. Did he have any symptoms?

Tell Charlie to give my best to Alton, and I'll keep him in my prayers.

I just got of the phone with Charlie. Alton is doing well and resting uncomfortably. They even had him up and standing last night!

He should be out of the ICU soon, but he will still be a little sore for a while!

Tell Alton I hope he heals quick, I know what open heart surgery is done had it, but it's really a new lease on life, the problem is you feel so good after oxygen starts getting to your heart, you want to try too much, I know I did. So tell him just cause he feels like a kid again he's not..

Alton had a quintuplet (5) bypass.
It will be at least 6 weeks before he can ride in a car.

Of course, knowing him, it will be three so he can come down for the next meeting.

Just an update..
Alton is recuperating well, his doctors are pleased with the progress
and may even send him home on Monday. He's pretty uncomfortable
and not feeling like visitors. Could be that he's tired, doesn't want people
to see him uncomfortable or perhaps my cologne. (Eau de Doodah Day)
but I'll be seeing him tomorrow and post another update. I have a
printout of all of the posts and will pass along all the best wishes.

take care
Charlie

Add mine in on that Charlie!!! I'm always amazed at how quickly they get people up and moving and home after such a major surgery, and I know several cardiac surgeons very well, and if his are anything like the ones I know, he is in fantastic hands. I'll be hoping for the best for him!!

Saw Alton this afternoon and he seems to be much more comfortable.
Chest pain seems to be manageable and he's been up and walking.
There's a possibility he'll be discharged tomorrow

Good luck in your recovery. Like others have said earlier, listen to the doctors and your wife. The recovery takes more time than you think it should, but it is worth the extra time.

Just seen this. Sounds like he is doing well.
Heres to a quick and painless(as mush as possible once the crack open ribs and play with your heart) recovery.

So he's home from the hospital---that's a good thing!!!

But he can't lift anything---a lazy man's dream world!!

Can't be upset, bad for his heart---wife can't nag!!!

So why isn't he on IAP 24-7 ??????
PUSH the keys, don't LIFT them!!!

(Glad to see you made it home Alton---get strong soon!)
