I have a question, my shop is in the downstairs of my house. My son came home last night while I was turning and this morning complained to me that the whole area smelled last night of the plastic I was working......you know that kinda sweet sickly smell........then recommended that I keep the windows open (15 degrees.I don't think so). How do others deal with the odor issues?
I don't have a dust collector as of yet, but I'm going to work out something, will that help with the odors.

Thanks

I use a shop vac, not a real dust collector. On really cold days I hook up a vent hose to the exhaust side of the shop vac and vent it outside. It helps a little with the smell. Opening the windows won't do much good if you don't have something blowing the air out, and you can't keep blowing it out without some means for fresh air to get in.

Get used to the smell and live with it is probably the best anwser.

Run a shop right behind the lathe. With the right shop made attachment it will help with SOME of the acrylic shavings and MOST of the smell. Be sure to vacuum up after you finsh turning. This will also keep down the smell.

Forget to say, I use a HEPA filter in my shop vacs. This helps considerably with smell.(I guess the fumes get trapped in the filter?)
