I was just now able to get online after ALL day, off and on of non-working
or the nearest to it you can get, internet.
Has anyone else had major problems today with IE 8 ??
funny thing, i-tunes opened and i got to their store okay, did an update download of a couple apps, all running fine. but IE..no go.

I even spent 45 minutes on the phone with at&t tech support for dsl internet i have and after 3 people, i had to give up to go to a dr appt.
came back from the Dr and after major fiddling with the computer such as windows restore to earlier dates, clearing browser caches, resetting explorer settings to default..i got the internet connection to fire for maybe 5 minutes.
Having seen some of the posts on here from some of the more computer savvy folks about using different browsers, I quickly found and downloaded firefox. then IE died again.

I am running firefox now and like it ok for something I had never seen before.
And it's working! IE will still not work...
never had issues with IE before that I knew of, but had been questioning my
ATT Yahoo, and their DSL. slow page loads on email, lost connections, etc.
Could all of this actually been IE acting up??

so, just wanting to know..anyone have major IE issues today, very recently?
and is firefox ok? any issues to look out for?

Thanks!

John,
Most developers actually prefer FF over most browsers. Seems they are better at following html, xml, php and asp rules. The same web page will look different in IE5 IE6 IE7 and IE8. I still use IE8 because I know that most of my browsers use this and I would rather nip something in the bud before I get complaints about how one of our shopping carts or web sites are acting. We are also on sbc/att dsl. Both here and at the shop. Have had no problems but I did notice that there was an new updatde downloaded today. I have yet to reboot the computer since the updates, so I am wondering if it has issues. I will let you know after I reboot if it craps out.

John:
There was a pretty big update a day or two ago. Go to you start menu, click on Microsoft updates and make sure your latest security update completely installed.

I had the same issue yesterday. Simply running the install again and letting the computer auto redraft solved the issue.

John, I gave up on IE years ago. FF is my browser of choice. I still have IE installed because I have two sites I have to work that will not allow FF as the browser.
Andy, I completed my Win update today with no visible problem. That does not mean I have no problem, they just haven't popped up yet. fingers crossed as typing.

Thanks all, I noticed there was a pretty good update, that is why I used the system restore to a few days back, seems to work most of the times like this when something is
all fussy.
Andy, Thanks I can try that!
Mike, Linda..thanks for confirming that worked for you.
Charles, what do you mean, some sites won't allow IE?

I would stick with FF and only use IE when you absolutely only have to!

Some people like Google Chrome as well.

I love FF and it has a gazillion add ons to make your browsing even better. Make sure you get Adblock Plus.

Looks like you are feeling a tad better? Any news on the surgeries yet?

Thanks Chip,
Looks like I'm behind most of the pack thus far on browsers!

I'll look into the adblock.

will pm you...

I don't love firefox...took it off my machine.

I primarily use FireFox and Opera. Chrome is an alright browser, but the folks at Google collect way too much information about your browsing habits and that makes me more than a little uncomfortable. I only use IE when I need to check a website for issues.

John, first great to see you back at the keyboard. This is what I sent about IE and FF."John, I gave up on IE years ago. FF is my browser of choice. I still have IE installed because I have two sites I have to work that will not allow FF as the browser." The two sites that require IE have something about security questions with FireFox. That is the only reason that IE is still on my system.
Hurry and get better. We all hope that your surgery will be a roaring success and you will be back to work PDQ.
Charles

John,

You might want to look at the add-on "Morning Coffee" available for FF. It will load the forums you go to daily with only one click. It is able to be personalized.

Get well soon.
