Yup -- I got it, too. Looks like fair prices on some things. Don't know who it is, but s/he's selling Heritance nibs.

I just got it too . I don't know who it is either but I know I never signed up or gave my email address to any site with that name and I don't have emaill forwarding from this site so they got my email from somewhere else . I checked the source code for the message and the email came direct to my regular email address .

Don't fear my friends. Go ahead and visit the site. I have purchased from these good folks before and have been very happy with their service and, products. MOST of you will recognize them. I am very happy they have finally gotten this site up and, running.

Well, you all need to worry how they got your email addresses and who sold the email addresses. I never give my regular email address to any bus. so if they sell it and I get junk email then I discard that email address.

No offense Dale, but that's not good enough. I got the mail too... And I did look at the site, and with no name or introduction on here in advance - then this isn't going to win whoever this is much praise in my book... If we will recognize them, we should gave gotten a clearly recognizable introduction...

If the email came from someone that I signed up with, they should have stated that.... Else risk looking like any other spam.

I'm pretty certain that, anyone who received this email has ordered from this place before. Maybe under a different name.

Hello All,

Sorry we didn't get the post here before the emails started hitting everyone's boxes. We planned to announce on here first, however while working on the new site and getting the newsletter ready to go we actually sent it before we got here to put a post up (forgetting how fast our new mail server program gets these out - it used to be an all night process & working very late at night - which is about the only time we get some days).

No one needs to worry about any odd links or anything like that - we are moving MLK over to Indy-Pen-Dance and are far enough along in that process to fully open the site up to pen makers. We all know how much we need to save money in this hobby/small business venture of ours.

You will find that we have LOWERED prices and have quantity discounts on many items now when you click on the specific item; we have become a distributor for the absolutely fantastic Heritage Nibs by Lou Metcalf - available at very very reasonable rates and we continue to maintain our distributorship for the always loved Private Reserve Inks & Refills which have some of the lowest prices you will find on the net. If you don't see something you need - let us know because the owner of Private Reserve is just down the street and we can usually get anything they have in stock within a day.

Please take a few minutes to stop on by and see what you think of the new digs - any feed back is, as always, welcomed and appreciated! And Again, please forgive us this egregious error as it was not our intention for the newsletter to come out before we let our IAP friends in on the big event!

Mike & Linda

You would be wrong because I never ordered from them. I agree with the others in that it comes across as someone using this site (or someone related to this site) to harvest email addresses. It's just wrong. About as disrespectful and rude as any unsolicited telemarketer interrupting my evening. The only reason I will be visiting their website is to request my email address be removed from their list. I would have expected more from a member of this site.

Ok, guys, I thought that the ad looked a little familiar. I'll let you two get away with it this time, but only because you both are long time contributors here. (And because Linda is so cute. (You're on your own there, Mike)). Just be sure you get that prep message posted first next time, so the rest of us know who it's from.

First off, I buy 90% of what I use from members here and will continue to do so. I find they are the best in the business. However, I don't like the idea of getting unsolicited emails trying to sell me pen supplies unless it's someone I have an existing relationship with.

I received the email as well and dont think I have never ordered from them. I really would hate to see the precedent set that visitors to our forums or members will start sending out unsolicited emails to everyone. I thought that's what the vendor and business forums were for, postings about products you sell.

Although I would like to know how Indy Pen Dance was able to get my email address and others from the forums. I might want to start a pen supply business and having 9000 or so email addresses of penturners would be a great headstart!

Your e-mail address was NOT obtained from this forum. It is not possible for a normal member to get e-mail addresses from IAP unless they are posted in the open forum. You had to have had some kind of external communications with them in some form.

If you have ever gotten a forwarded email from a member of any group, by viewing header, you can obtain a list of all email addresses that the original email has been to. I have seen 50-60 easily viewed addresses from people i have had no contact with. Quite easy to harvest addresses if the email came from a group with a specific interest.

For what it's worth, here's my $.02. I don't personally have an issue with receiving unsolicited emails from businesses that sell products I use regularly. I espescially don't have a problem with those emails if the products being solicited are cheaper than my current sources. In these economic times I couldn't imagine being upset by the opportunity to save money. Heck! They even save me the time and trouble of having to track them down, thus saving me even more money (if you subscribe to the old saying 'time is money').

After reading these replies I am fairly certain that I'll never resort to sending unsolicited emails to potential customers. It's probably not worth the potential negativity it seems to instill in some of the recipients.

Guess that makes me 'wise', eh? Well, I have been called a 'wiseguy' often enough.... I guess I should've known.

I think it's great Mike/Linda ..congrats on the new website!

On a side note...I don't know how my name was on the list...it doesn't bother me how you got it any more than how anyone else gets it, but because it was unsolicited mail, I did not open it, I sent it to the junk/spam file. Seems to me, the only smart thing to do with email you don't know anything about, and with a name like that it sounds like an upcoming pen show of which I am already booked for the year, so had no interest in even looking. What's in a name? It's so subjective..some will love it and some will hate it...me, I'm not crazy about the new business name at all. I do not find it to be very catchy, and it doesn't allude to pen supplies in any way that I can tell. Just a little feedback for you Mike, as to how I feel about the new site. I'll be sure and go check it out from the inside soon.

Thanks for the input Jeff, we added a second line to our new name that should clarify things a little!

One reason that it irritates me so much is because that's become a big part of my job over the years. As a network manager for a large organization it has been my responsibility to prevent unsolicited email from reaching our employees. Filtering out the spam while ensuring every piece of real deal email is never discarded is not an easy task. Over the last 15 years this went from taking very little of my time to taking a lot of my valuable time. As such, I've come to recognize spammers as the scum of the earth.

I'm not saying Mike & Linda are the scum of the earth. Far from it. I'm referring to the real deal anonymous spammers.

After reading these replies I am fairly certain that I'll never resort to sending unsolicited emails to potential customers. It's probably not worth the potential negativity it seems to instill in some of the recipients.

For those who have been asking, the gist of the email was to announce the new web site and an offering of $1.00 shipping in the US for any order thru October. To our Canadian neighbors, we are sorry we cannot extend this offer for all orders. However if you order only refills or nibs, we will manually adjust your order to $1.00 shipping for your order.

Welcome Mike, Linda and Indy-Pen-Dance! (For those who might miss the reference, "Indy" refers to the fact that Zionsville is a suburb of Indianapolis.)

It's great to have another supplier on the forum, particularly one who crafts such beautiful pens and knows what we like/need.

I wish you great success and you can count on my first order coming this week!

Can you set us all straight about the choosing of the name. It does seem abit odd. Sometimes odd stands out better though.:)

Indy is the nickname for the city "Indianapolis" which is the largest city in Indiana and where we both basically grew up. Pen seems a bit self explanatory - but relates to both supplies and pens that we sell and craft. Dance would be the way our pens glide across the paper as a dancer does the floor  Put it all together and it is a play on "Independence" The initials IPD have an extremely special meaning to Linda as her father was a police officer on the Indianapolis Police Department before his retirement so for her it was one way of honoring his dedication to our city.
The fourth of July is also a VERY important day in our lives as it relates to some of our very good friends, family and the freedoms of this country.

Also, while we were looking for a new name that would not have the potential reference that "MLK" seemed to have for many (we were warned in the beginning and sales while not horrid never really took off) it was a name that a dear friend helped us come up with (one who has been very successful in this business) and the name just hit all sorts of bells for us as you can see above.
Finally, we plan to feature a number of the pens that would relate to independence - such as flags, eagles etc.

Drop in for a visit and let us know what your thoughts are!!
