I wonder if having a big wood garage sale would work.I have a large turning club I belong to that I can invite(30-65 depends on the meeting).I was wondering what you guys thought do you think I will waste my time?Just don't want to spend two days getting ready for nothing, but I guess I don't know until I try it right?I need to make some extra cash as my truck is down and out(I think for good). Thanks,Victor

You could do up an inventory sheet of what's available and pass it out at a meeting. Tell them you're having a sale, and who might be interested in coming. I wouldn't make sales till that day or you'll be coming and going with individals daily, and have nothing on the day of your event.

That would be a ton more work to sell things through the IAP.Pictures/resizing/posting/shipping quotes/Shipping its self it would be a pain. Also i can't sell large stock well through the IAP due to shipping costs killing a good deal. Thanks,Victor

I agree ... make up an inventory list and send it to all your wood turning friends.
You will get some idea as to how many will be interested.

Offering to host a morning coffee and donut break might get them to attend your garage sale.

If your tunring club is anything like the one here most members have been turning for a very long time and have extensive wood collections. Some members even bring in free wood to give away. There's never a mad rush to get a piece but most of it will disappear by the end of the night.

On the other hand, I know you have a lot of wood so if you have what most people don't have easy access to then it could be a gold mine for you.

Good luck!

I think it can work or maybe not..hard to know what you have and what your turning group also has. I think you should give it a try anyhow, but at the same time, make it open to the public. Put an add in the paper about your garage sale and all the wood you have and it should draw in several people that need wood. For large boards, you need those woodworkers that are making larger things than turnings, so that might make all the difference. I go to lots of auctions, and the ones with tools and wood always draw the most people. A garage sale isn't much different than an auction.

I personally think that a 'group tag sale' of wood, and maybe other pen tools/kits that members have would be a great success! You should have a 'members only pre-sale', where the members could swap items, etc. Then open it to the public.
