I will never understand why some bosses are just nasty people! I have been looking for another job for a few years now, but with my age (59) and the economy, I had to stick with my job, that I just hated! The work was ok, oil business, (what else in Houston!)
But my boss is the rudest, nastiest, downgrading, intimidating person I have ever worked for! He would push your soul into the ground. He is in his 40's. I am a Vietnam era vet, Desert Storm era Vet and just could not undestand why he was such an idiot! The Army treated me better that he did!
Has anyone ever worked for someone like that? I really believed he is Bipolar or something mentally wrong with him.

I worked my a** for him! Anyway, I finally got another job, starting Monday. I feel so free now. Using this week to turn some pens!
Thanks for listening!

Good for you, a "fresh" start. Leave your "troubles" and your nasty boss behind and look forward to your new job. There's plenty of people like "him" in every working camp.

Good luck with the new job.

That is the way it was at my previous employment. allways said that the hour of the day I had my time in I would retire..... I did and now have started a second career for 8 years have been happy with my leaveing the job .... good luck

If they give you an exit interview, be honest, but don't burn any bridges. Honest, straight to the point, neutral.

I'm glad you found a new job. If you hate going in every morning, it just isn't worth it anymore.

Some people's self esteem is so low that making employees feel bad makes him feel like he is worth something...kind of sad really because you know his home life is the same....

My wife is currently in a position like that, she get treated like a complete Idiot, She is the only one there that can keep the inventory at a workable lv, she has yet to have a customer complaint and her cash drawers are always with in a few Penney's both the General Manager and the new first assistant are constantly having complaints on them self's, and the first assistant can't even keep her cash drawers straight pr keep inventory at a usable level.

I honestly believe you have defined the problem precisely.

I'm pretty sure that there have been a few people who have worked for me who thought just about the same thing about me, and they may have been right. Now that I'm old and retired I've turned into a nice preson, but I don't understand why nobody seems to have noticed.

Good to hear that it worked out for you.

Gerry, how can anyone living In Santa Claus be anything but 'nice'.

Congrats on the new job.

Yes, I worked with someone like that. We gave him enough rope to reach the next higher rung of the ladder so he could hang himself from there. Now he hates his job.

He was a young punk that knew everything and ruled by intimidation. His replacement was great but then we got a new GM like him and he screwed everything up so I pulled the plug after 37 years.

Couldn't be happier now.

While I am sure most of us know or have known people like him I would caution you to be careful what you say about him in a public forum. You don't want it getting back to him or worse getting to your new employer and maybe they rethink their position. In todays age anything we say on the internet can and is spread very wide very quickly. Just a thought.

I warn my 16 year old "beware of little people with a little power" it also reminds him how to behave when he is on the "giving" end.

I always wonder about a company that allows him to get away with it. Certainly if he is that bad, they are well aware of it. Makes you wonder...

Congratulations on the new job. I've had a difficult boss but not near as bad as you described. It is great that you stuck with it until you found a new job, I'm not sure that I could have. I never minded hard work, long hours, stressful and or boring work, I mean it's work, right. But if you add a prick of a boss to the equation that would be a bit much.

Gerry, I noticed that you're a pretty nice guy. Either that or you put up a good front.. :-)

Glad to hear of your newfound freedom, and the new job.
I hope you find happiness or at least it's acceptable substitute, since it is called work.
I've had some managers so bad I had to walk out...right on to the next job!

Glad to hear that you found a new pathway to enjoy your work.

I manage 1600 humans and its alway interesting. About 10% love me, 10% hate me and the rest...who knows. I'd rather be turning pens but the income is not replaceable.

At 55 I am happy to report that I have never had a boss like you describe. Some have never been a joy but were usually supportive and appropriate. I have been blessed.

Hi renowb,

I'm glad that you are no longer under such stressful conditions, I truly believe a bad working environment is as nasty as a bad marriage. Once, as a young man, I got one of those as a boss, it did cost me a lot of money in hospital expenses he required and some community service but no criminal record recorded, as a result...!:wink::biggrin: I was lucky, this response to a problem is not recommended nor encouraged, as I found out later...!

That probably explains why I never worked for anyone else, since...!

I hope you get plenty of time to enjoy your pen making, we all will be glad to see some of your work...!

Good luck!

Cheers
George

First, congrats on your new job.

I must be the luckiest person around. I have had bosses that tried that crap on me, however, being Mr. Independent, I just quit or fired him. That time was sure fun to fire my boss. didn't work all that well but it sure was fun. I work construction so another job was never far off. Besides that, my neighbor when I was a smart kid told me that if I never wanted to work a day in my life, find a job I would do for free, then find some darn fool to pay me to do it. Believe it or not, it works.

Construction electrician 35 years and still loving it.

Absolutly the best of luck in your new job.

My boss is out of this world. You could say it's like heaven to work for Him.

Good luck on your new gig! Make sure this week you get the decompression done, and dont bring anything from the old job with you to the new job!

Sadly, I currently have the same problem, but I have an interview tomorrow. Hopefully something comes of it.

I have a saying, only Christian organizations eat their dead.

Multi million dollar organization, but doesn't pay into unemployment. "Lays off" people at a whim leaving them to struggle with no income. The departmental infighting is enough to drive one to drink. The concept of being a good steward goes out the window as soon as budget time comes around. Etc etc etc.

Yet, I've been here for 3 years. Not because of my direct boss, but because of the opportunity to serve. Being in IT for a church and school means I get to touch many lives every day. How cool is that? My last job was for Ameriquest Mortgage. Pretty much the exact opposite!
