i have had the psi set for two years. so far i have not needed anything other than the collets that come with it. i use open end wrenchs for sizing and turn tenons to fit the collets that i have. i could see the need for other collets for metal work but completely unneccasary for turning wood. just my $.02

I bought the biggest set I could find and afford, that way I am never going to be looking for the one size I need but don't have. I bought the metric set from 800watt on Ebay and found his service to be very quick and his price was great. Shop several of his sales for the best price. I bought the collet chuck from Beall tools and have never had an issue with it so I'm happy.

Cool. I plan on getting the PSI chuck, just because it is less $$, and it has the knurled nut that you can hand tighten.

From the sound of it, I should try just what comes with the chuck, and if I need more make sure to get the 18pc metric set...

That's a huge help. Thanks Everyone!

I got the Beall collet chuck, and adding a single 11/16" collet was a nice addition to fill the gap between 5/8" and 3/4"

I bought the beall collet set with about 6 different collets. The only one I ever use is the 1/2 inch to hold my closed end mandrels. Maybe figure out what you are going to use it for and just get the one or two collets you need. You can always add ones later.

The other collet that is pretty consistently recommended is one larger than 3/4, either 25/32 or 15/16, because the 3/4 is just that, even a tiny fraction over or slightly irregular and it either won't fit or will have to be forced in, which introduces problems.
