Need help identifying this wood

I am hoping someone recognizes this wood. A guy posted firewood on Craigslist and stated it was pecan. He did have some pecan in the pile so I picked up a bunch. I did not realize that I picked up something else also. Not sure what this is.

Characteristics:

Found in San Antonio
Hardwood
Light brown
Very dense/heavy
Turns very easily

Any thoughts?

My picture taking is terrible. I could not get the colors right. This is a light brown so I don't think it is mesquite. Is there lacewood in Texas? If there is I would agree, it does look like lacewood.

The picture looks fine to me.. :biggrin:
I've had a couple of pieces of mesquite that's about that color, but the marks in the blank do look more like a lace wood to me.... if the seller is selling as local woods, I'm not so sure there are such woods in Texas, unless he had a transplanted tree from So. America... possible...
more likely he's sell off some blanks he has accumulated.... I'm forever picking up blanks from various places whenever I find them at a good price.
 
Could be Sheoak but that is Australian so I don't know. I am leaning towards some type of Oak but very well could be Mesquite. I have been sent different types of Mesquite from Texas.
 
Oak for sure if it was here in Florida I would say Live Oak. I have some that looks just like that. The open looking grain is a dead giveaway.

I would agree that it is a live oak. This is a pretty generic term but it could be Quercus fusiformis which is Texas Live Oak. Very nice wood to work with. Bob I.
