I picked up some others at Gesswein, I think they were about $5 for a little bag,
and I think there were 100 in the bag. You can get other colors and other sizes.
Good for those projects where you'd like to show some 'bling' but not on the
pen hardware.. l

I've just gotta ask........

I hear lots about the infamous "Pimp Chrystal" and the lengths some go to replace it but so far all I've seen is replacing the clear crystal with a colored crystal or object.

Geeze, the whole kit is a bit overboard gawdy so, by changing the color of the clip insert makes it all acceptable for "non-pimps" to use? I forgot who coined the phrase "pimp crystal" and started this silliness last year or possibly the year before but I just don't get it. To me the gawdy crystal fits right in with the gawdy metal trim pieces.

George, it might of been me who coined the "pimp crystal" not sure but if this component kit in your opinion is a bit overboard I really think it's no more gaudy than the Emperor, and the Lotus with the exception of the clear crystal which in my opinion make the finished pen more feminine but by changing the color it calms down the feminine effect and now sells very well for me. IIRC you have sold and liked the Lotus and Emperor and never said they were gaudy.....Frankly they are all gaudy but they sell..

Don't remember who coined the phrase, but if it's what you have to work with why wouldn't someone want to tone down that sense of gawdyness? You can even go through the trouble of removing all those trim peices if you wanted to. The Statesman kit is the only other "high end" avaible right now untill someone comes out with a better rival. I use the kit, I take the trouble of removing the "pimp crystal" and I go through even more difficulty turning my own replacement out of the same material as the barrels. Not everyone has to understand or even like it. Luckily we don't have to have our "pimp status" checked before we can use it either.

Edit: didn't see your post Roy. I think it was you that came up with the phrase and I loved it and ran with it when I posted about it.

Roy, I agree that the kits you mentioned are all "over blinged" to a certain degree and that they do sell, actually I probably sold more emperors than any other kit I make, I just always saw the majestic as being more blinged with it's crown like cap and design.

The few majestics I did make sold easily, even with the crystal and I don't think the buyers were pimps, like I would know what a real pimp looked like but come to think of it, one buyer did have a pocketfull of hundreds!

I guess my whole point is that the crystal is getting a bum rap and possibly an undeserved nick name.

Did he wear a Fedora with a large brim and a feather?

Possibly right, it just seemed on certain blanks changing it made the pen.

Not sure what pen has the "pimp crystal". I must have joined after that phrase was coined, but I sell my Majestics and Emperors almost as soon as I make them. In fact, I have standing orders to give one guy first right of refusal on all high end pens and anything segmented or unusual I do. I don't care how blinged out these things look, they sell, baby, and that's what matters to me.

I hate to be old and ignorant, but, what is a "Pimp Chrystal"?

Just think of this every time you look at a majestic clip.:bulgy-eyes::hypnotized:
