I saw a cane made form cholla cactus skeleton. I would like to get some straight pieces about 40" long. Is that a possibilty and is there anyone here who can provide me with some?

I don't think that stuff grows very straight. Could you get shorter pieces and work them together? You have a lithe that will turn that ling? I found a place on the internet that sells it but in shorter pieces. Maybe contact them. You have to find some because I like your idea and really want to see the finish product. There are several e-bay sellers of it in shorter pieces. Maybe contact one of them.

it grows here in southwest Oklahoma... And getting a straight piece isn't that terribly hard.

It would be hard to find a piece that was absolutely straight, so i dont know about the idea of turning the whole thing... I made a cool cane for a friend not too long ago... Unfortunately i didn't think to take pictures of it.

I took a piece that was long enough to make a cane out of that had a jagged point on top from where it split off of the plant at a crotch. I cut the "knob" off the top of it, and cast just the knob in resin. Then i turned it to a handle shape and sanded and polished it. I didn't do anything at all to the cane itself.

I am not looking for an arrow straiht piece, if you have (or could find) a piece 42" with a slight curve, thats ok....I will certainly pay for it and shipping.

I have several fairly straight cane sized pieces as I collect them for the purpose of making walking sticks. I don't have any pictures online but can take some and email them to you if you'd like. I live in New Mexico which is where I do my collecting, and only collect pieces that are dead.
