That's probably something we'll never know. I know a ton of people will CLAIM that they were the first, but that's pretty much "un-provable"...
 
They guy who invented it probally knocked over the bottle of CA sitting on his lathe head and said "NOW WHAT!, I think i'll just have a beer and sand it off tomorrow"
 
CA has been used in the furniture restoration industry since it first became available commercially. One of the main reasons it gained popularity was the ability to glue chair rungs without knocking a chair apart. It was found that if any of the CA ran down the leg or rung, once hardened the excess CA could be buffed to match the existing finish of the chair. CA as a finish in our industry is as common place as clear finger nail polish is.
 
I was the first to use CA on a pen as far as I know, it was many years ago and it took a long time to get the pen unstuck from my fingers, of course it had nothing to do with pen making at the time. Some day I will tell you about how I learned not to bite the hardened glue off the tip of the bottle.
