A friend brought me this piece of wood and neither of us have no clue what it is. Can anyone tell me what it is?

I showed the piece to a friend who has worked with wood he though it might be fruit wood because of the black coloring where the bark was but was not sure.

Your last pictures looks very similar to a piece I had once... it was apple.

Not for certain though.
