Just when you thought you had heard of every CA method under the sun ....

Sam Angelo (Wyoming Woodturner), a professional woodturner and instructor, has just posted a YT video that has an interesting subject - wet sanding with CA. It seems to be an interesting concept, but I am wondering what others here think about it.

Personally, I'm not convinced that it does much more than wet sanding with mineral oil and wax (à la Carl Jacobson) but I have yet to give it a try.

Interesting. IMO, I'll have to pass. Sanding to me is removing material. When the time comes for a finish, I don't want any foreign material mixed in. If I have any small open/low spots, I fill them or sand some more or even the CA will fill tiny spots. I don't think I would want to introduce dust into the finish. YMMV

I think it could be a valuable tool to consider in certain situations.

Mineral oil won't fill on torn grain.

Ca sanding sure would.

I've used pens plus for wet sanding (kinda) with good results).

I sand with CA on open grain woods like Red Oak. The wood dust and CA mix and fill the grain openings to create a flat natural looking base coat to then apply the normal CA finish onto. Gets rid of the uneven CA finish that usually happens with open grains.

PS: this is not new, many of us have been doing this process for many years:
