I am trying to find out if anyone has ever made a pip on the lathe. My father has smoked a pipe for as long as I have known him...im 37.....and he was doing it for about 20 years before me..lol I thought that would be a great Christmas present:)
Has anyone tried this...and or can it be done...thanks for all and any info:wink:

talk to Larry (pipeyeti) or Kurt (pipemaker?) both do beautiful stuff and could probably point you in the right direction.

check out:

you can use a wood lathe for the stummel (wood part) pretty easily but turning a stem on a wood lathe is a little more difficult, but possible. but the lathe only gets you so far, there is a ton of shaping/sanding involved to make a pipe. a lot of file/dremel work.

Cool! I've often wondered the same thing. Found a few websites, but nothing that gave me enough info to know how to get started myself.
