One of my employees brought me some good size pieces of mesquite. I made 1/2 for her and I have used the other half for my own projects.
This vase measure 9 inches tall by 6 inches wide. Mesquite tends to crack around the pith so I stood the piece on end, sealed one end with clear vinyl caulk, allowed to dry and turned the piece on end and poured in epoxy with a black tint. This filled all the cracks and made the piece very stable for turning. I left the worm holes intact. Sanded to 600 and finished with wipe on poly. http://www.penturners.org/photos/index.php?n=17742
