I have tapped and died all sorts of metal. Wood on the other hand has me scratching my head. I tried using a regular die on a dowel and it splintered the poo out of it. Tried a thread cleaner and got the same deal. Is there a secret to doing this that someone can share with me? Lots of wax maybe?

I need to thread two wood dowels and tap some plywood.

Usually using hrdwood, tight grained wood is best. Low thread count, 1 x 8 for example. Maybe stabalizing it with lots of thin CA.

I'd get a hold of Mike Redburn (mredburn). I've seen his threading in wood in person. He does a beautiful job with fine threads. It makes my head hurt just thinking about trying it. Look up some of his wooden pens and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I am actually looking for course threads. That way I will get quicker adjustments.

Hmmmmm the metal lathe! I've been avoiding those gears.
