I just love turning the Baron as a closed end pen.
This one out of red palm turned out particularly nice.

Is the clip on the other side, or did you go without?
Was the blank stabilized? Do you use a pin chuck or expanding chuck?

Palm makes for a nice pen, just wish I could get through one without pulling what little hair I have remaining....seems you have it figured out though. Well done!!!!!

This pen has no clip. I like the baron with both ends closed. I do. It know if customers like them as well as I do. I use the expanding mandrel from Arizona Sill. And I put it in a collet chuck. This is very stable. I turn it with carbide and when I get close to the size, I apply thin CA on a regular basis to keep it from spontaneously scattering around the shop at a rapid rate. The blank is not stabilized. I prefer to buy wood and cut my own blanks.

I have tried both black and red. The black palm pen took me several tries to complete one pen. I think I had 3 blow outs. I am not sure if it was my technique or the wood.
