I have an opportunity to purchase this lathe (230mm x 500mm, or 9x20..) from a colleague's (late) father's estate. Age is unknown, and the asking price is $1500. Here is a link to the manufacturer's site for the specs:

Bench Lathe CQ6123B*500 - Detailed info for Bench Lathe CQ6123B*500,Bench Lathe,Bench Lathe CQ6123B*500,CQ6123B*500 on Alibaba.com

I've done a few searches, but there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of information out there, so I am posting here in hopes that someone can shed some light on whether this is an acceptable brand/model. I think the price is a little high, so I would also appreciate if someone could comment on what an acceptable offer might be.

Thanks in advance for everyone's input.

Grizzly has a 10 x 22 lathe for $1200 so $1500 for one that is used, in need of cleanup and perhaps missing some accessories is way too much. I would pass and by new. Your friend might take offense if you offer closer to what it might actually be worth.

That is a tough choice. IF they are good friends and IF there is a fair amount of stuff with it and IF they really need the money, then maybe.
I would pass on it otherwise.

Where is the tail stock? That looks like a steady rest under the rag. Is that the bottom of it we see under/behind the lathe bed? The name isnt really a consideration. looks like half a dozen Chinese 9x20 lathes. Without the tail stock its worth less, a lot lot less. Whether its Central Machinery, Fox, Jet, Or grizzly.Around here a used 9x20 tops out around 800-900 dollars and that's a very hard sell at that price.Usually its more in the 600-700 range. If you Google Jet 9 x9 20 they look real similar. THere is a Jet 9 x 20 new at $1950 delivered on ebay.

Grizzly is under $1000 new

I found this lathe after purchasing a used JET for $150.The parts are compatible,I am awaiting a $150 parts order from Grizzly now. After that I should have a nice benchtop 9x20 ready to turn some metal.
If you can show your friend some of these other lathes they might be persuaded to give a more realistic price.
