Pineapple cutter

My wife loves pinapple but it is a pain to cut and core so I made this for her. It is a piece of 1 1/4 stainless tubing 4 inches long I milled out a slot and topped with a piece of walnut that a friend sent from a tree in Virginia. The top was a silver tack I had laying on the bench. I has a heavy coat of exterior varnish as the pineapple juice is hard on finishes.

Nice idea. Do you chop off the top and bottom first so you can follow the core when you use this gadget?
