this is my 2nd vise I buy from PSI and both of them can't keep their locking ring on the screw for more than a week, anyone else have this problem and what is a fix for it?

William - I bought one from Woodcraft two years ago and mine is still running. I can't remember the brand though, thinking Wood River....might want to check them out also.

When I was doing more pens, I drilled on the lathe... much easier and cleaner holes... but when I did use the drill press, never used a vice... I use a pair of channel lock pliers to hold the blank and a block of wood under it to act as a brace at the bottom for when I cleared the end of the blank... mostly drilled antler this way until I learned to do that on the lathe as well.

+1 for drilling in the lathe. Never a worry about centering either. If you have a chuck get blank jaws for it, if not return your pen vise and get PSI's blank chuck. It works well.
