OK, so I finally have a piece of deer antler large enough to use on a big pen (Gent, Statesman, and the other CUSA kits). In fact, with the recent technique I've learned with using a lathe to drill antler, I've successfully drilled and mounted tubes for a Gent with antler.
However, since it is not likely that I'll get such a large section of antler any time soon (given that antler's that large hunters usually want to keep), I'm wondering if the Gent kit I had the blanks made for is not ornate/ high end enough. Should I hold off, and save the blanks for a Statesman or Emporer's pen? I know they use the same diameter tubes (though not sure about length). Or do you think the simpler Gentleman's pen works better with simpler material?
I'm torn, so I thought I'd ask for opinions...
Thanks!
