A friend found this slice of burl at a yard sale. Can anyone tell me what this is?

My guess is maple burl too.

My vote would be Big Leaf Maple Burl.

That would make one fine table top or a lot of fine pens.

Thanks all - I looked around the Internet based on advice here that it was Big Leaf maple burl and saw several similar looking slabs. Mystery solved!

I guess this is something of a gloat because my buddy just up and gave it to me. I told him I'd make him a pen out of some of it.

Tom, cut and send me some blanks that I could inspect and turn then, I will let you know what type of wood it is.[] Looks like Maple to me also.

My guess is maple too, looks just like the one I found in my father-in-laws old well house. Great find, lots of pens and things there.
