This is a Australian burl, that is all I know. It is hard as a rock and the outside of the burl is a smooth rounded shape, not pointed like some of the burls that I have seen. I have been spending a lot of time for the last few week turning "other things" I just needed a break. Any help with the ID. would be great. Thanks Russell.

Yes Jerry, I have the outside of it at the house. The burl was purchased from a importer. It came from Australia, that is were he imports most all his wood from.

Hi Russell,
I have some wood that is called Australian Goldfield Burl Caps that I picked up at Macbeth Hardwoods. They usually have them sitting in a big bin and are about 12"x12"x6" before it is turned. It looks a lot like yours.
Great job on the bowl....I really like the shape.
