Picked up a new stand for my Jet lathe this morning at my local Rockler for 22% off in their founders day sale. Then later today while on my way shopping I found this:

Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to cut it up as my bandsaw only has a 3 1/2 inch clearance.:( How close to final blank size should I cut it while waiting for it to dry? Also, any ideas on what kind of tree it was?
BTW I sealed the ends right after I took the pictures.

NICE looking!

I learned to make cuts at about 1 1/4 to allow for shinkage and also for warping. 1 1/8 in at the smallest, in my opinion and experience. I think you can get away with smaller sizes but if they warp or twist, it will could make them less useful.
